Radio Shack; The joy AND bane of my micro scale existance!
Radio Shack, since getting into the micro scale rc scene, has been a 2nd home to me. Tools, accessories, etc...Just about anything to do with the technical nature of the tiny cars can be gotten there. This is the 'joy' of Radio Shack.
Now, unless you know EXACTLY what you need...You're SCREWED because it seems that Radio Shack Headquarters has decided that one of the REQUIREMENTS of working at a Radio Shack is that you have ABSOLUTELY ZERO experience with electronics or anything of a technical sense...Now, I DON'T mean to degrade the people that do get a job there (for all I know they might be very educated in whatever OTHER field they're in) it's just that they have NIL knowledge of the things in Radio Shack.
Now when I say you need to know EXACTLY what you want, I'm not talking about just description...You BETTER KNOW what the heck it looks like too! and if possible the exact part number. Why? Well did you actually think the people that don't know what they're selling would know what the heck you're talking about? No my friend, you're going on a scavenger hunt to find your item.
Well, I guess the good thing is that now I know pretty much the entire store layouts for about 3 Radio Shacks in my area.

I went in there looking for the "solder on bulbs" that were on my 1/10th scale "New Bright" Pontiac Fiero... (collectors toy - made in 1986) and they were like.... "dur, uh, you cant solder bulbs on, they'll explode" im like, "but the factory in some third world did it find" he tells me "they have different stuff there"
IDIOTS!
Its almost as bad as Auto Zone,
I went in for a clutch for my 1:1 scale Fiero and the conversation went as follows,
me - i need a clutch
him - what for
me- 1985 fiero
him - what engine
me - 2.8 v6
him - thats an automatic then right
What the heck? I said clutch you twit! I mean, yea automatics have clutch packs but you cant get them from autozone thats for dam sure!
Perhaps they lay off auto zone people so they can work at radio shack and vise, versa!

the ones i went to, there was only one employee there...and 1-2 customers....really quiet, with no music playing...just too quiet
im sure its a great store if you are into tinkering with electronics....
well anyways...i gotta go back there on sat to get a ZZ..hopefully i can get the civic before anyone else does....har har.ima go there in the morning

Radio shack been one of those "hey I can do that to change the ......... in my ......." type of store. But having stupid salles people just goes to show you not everyone should be working at a speciality shop.

Me:"I'd like a 330 microfarad 250 volt capacitor."
Radio Shack:"I'm sorry I have no idea what that is."
Me: "Didn't think so."

radio shaq
big poster of shaq
holding a zip zap
at my local shack
i like the fact
that there's so many stores
around but every time
i go in there for a couple
dollars worth of parts they
want my name and address
i have to be rude every time
and say no just ring it up
i hate it but i don't just give
that info to anyone
today i was in the store
and they were taking applications
for summer help
and someon asked how much they pay
and all the manager dude said was commission
my brother worked there years ago
and the pay was minimum wage and 1% commission
no wonder they get such quality people
i hate radio shack
i'll order my zz's online
oink

Some radio shacks really aren't that bad. Mall based stores are usually to busy to hassle customers for all the info, you need to look out for the off-track radio shacks whose manager looks like the moron from the Dell Computer commercials.

I picked up a zipzap.
I got a pt cruiser zipzap yesterday and when I was checking out the guy suggested I get teh Fast and Furious body set. He told me that if I got this set the car would go faster because it would be more aerodynamic. I really wanted to laugh in his face but he was handicap so I didn't. That had to be the dumbest thing I ever heard come out of someones mouth. We're talking about a car that doesn't even move fast. I guess with that logic poeple should turtle wax so they car will micro R/C will stay shiny.
