Who Hates F&F
i liked the first one b/c i knew absolutely nothing about cars back then... only that they looked cool, were loud, and the dudes taht drove them were cool... (haha)
now i know, and i hate F&F. Period. Sure, they got a supra, one of my favorite cars... but it's not even about the cars anymore. It's about them getting wrecked. you see that poor pink S2K in the preview?! ow... it makes me wanna paint all my cars pink and put hello kitty stickers all over them. ugh.... now all the friggin kids walkin around are gonna be spouting stuff about they're buddy's R34.... **sigh**..
and that... iron.. dude's pics, that's EXACTLY what im talkin about too. everyone with a tasteful car that performs is gonna be labeled as a wannabe. We gather in parking lots sometimes to talk and show off a little, but now we cant even do that w/o getting a load pure rice come and start talking up their cars....
never, EVER gonna go watch that movie. so who's with me?

My wife and I were commenting to each other that the technology is killer, but the girl body mods & styling and brappy sounding buzz bomb thing can go.
We're also both in our late 30's so bear with the old folks.

(who was that driver...?) i just like her car... it's cool...

Imports are cool, but I hate rice.
Tuning your car so it can perform better, I respect and love. A car-guy is a car-guy (or car-girl) no matter what they drive. Wanting better performance is an obvious thing, whatever you drive can be made better.
Anyway, F&F brought this underground street race thing to the general public's attention. Now you can't go anywhere without seeing a bone-stock base model Honda with a body kit, Type-R badge, spoiler, stickers, visually offencive paint, fart cannon, tuner rims, clear corner lights, and the like. The best part is that since F&F came out, they all seem to drive like 'azz-holez': launching from *every* light, cutting as many people off as they can, side-stepping the clutch, trying to drive an automatic like it's a stick... It's funny if you can get over how many lives they're endangering.
The concept of the "sleeper" is apparently dead to most people now. Am I the only one that still thinks a rather 'gutless looking' car that could take just about anything in a street race is cool? Oh well, I guess it's cheaper and safer for them to have something all show and no go. (Uh, I don't condone street racing though Don't do it.)
Never saw the first F&F, since I thought the plot was too far fetched. (Honda/Mitsubishi + 50 lbs of stuff to add drag + 1,000 lbs of radio stuff and lights + 1 bottle nitrous = 1/4 in the 10's? doing street racing) Didn't really plan on seeing the second, as the plot is even worse (sneak money from illegal actions in hideously ugly cars while driving several times the speed limits?) BUT: I'm probably going to end up seeing both of them, and picking up the original it was based on (1950's street racing scene).
Just remember, Muscle cars and Pony cars aren't dead, they're just waiting for their prey to get confident. Hope you like the tail-lights.

The Fast and the Furious (1954)
It looks like it's probably a rather funny b-movie. (but isn't the new one also?) Kidnapping, and illegal races. Not exactly a remake, even though just about *all* the movie reviews say it was. American Graphiti was probably closer to F&F (2001) than the original movie by the same name.
http://www.jabootu.com/acolytes/bnotes/fastfur.htm#plot
Probably only really worth it if you're into old cars, or like making fun of lame b-movies.

You thought it was based on Initial D because 2F2F and FNF are all about racing on mountain passes finding out who the best drift or grip driver is...Maybe you need to watch Initial D...
Japanese street racing (ID) and US street racing have nothing in common...US is all about going straight really fast..big deal.

well no i didnt think that........or maybe i did....... hmmm........
anyways, what i meant was i thought that FF was the US vers. of ID..... but everyone knows that drifting is not mainstream in the US ..... or atleast not yet........
though they say that ID is coming out with the 4th stage magna and remaking 3rd stage.....but this time its not going to be in magna form.... try are going to be using real people...... dont ask were i heard it cuz i cant remember....

 go frizzen!
i dont like sleepers as much as you guys do tho... heh, well that's just me =)
driving fast in a striaght line isnt completely stupid... it gives people a way to get into the world of cars w/o the danger of something that requires a lot of skill, like drifting. and besides, the people that started it were the old muscle car people..
4th stage is already out in manga...

Straight drag racing is more about the power of the car where as jap style racing, with the drifting and whatnot is more driving skill oriented. A good racer will have both. A fast car and the skills to use it.
I wouldn't judge a car by the way the driver drifts it or takes corners with it. You start from a stand still and go head to head if ya wanna judge the car.

I think this all started when Nissan made the R32. Ever since then, Japanese cars are fast
Rice... i don't know. I'm shure it was around long before the Fast and the Furious. For every car, somone wants to make it go fast (13 second Geo Storm in Sport Compact) and look fast (30% of the Civics i see everyday).
I'd rather just dump $30,000 on an STi

damn man... rice was around before we were born =)
fast cars were all around in the old days... believe it or not, people were running 11 and 10 second 240Zs and pintos back in the old times, when import drag was just starting...
