Battery Q!! help plz..
im lookin for more range from my controller, and im not sure whether i should use 3 batts... i heard it can burn out the controller, but give REALLY good range... ant comments?
also, would using C batteries be a bad idea? they supply more current at the same voltage, so would this increase range?
thanks!
*edit: come on pros, im lookin at you spanky, chelboed, anyone...

I'm pretty sure I have seen guys put 4 AA in a microsizer controller and it didn't explode, so I think 3 should be no problem.
Also, C batteries are kinda heavy so I thinks its not worth it. But hey at least you don't charge with the controller... What!!!! You charge with the controller? get an AC-adapter, it works great.

koo... looks like ima be wiring up my 3 batt pack tonight... thanks for the reassurance
as for C batteries, i dont mind the weight.. it's on the controller, so i dont mind at all... at worst it'll tone my arms while im holding the bit controller up for hours at a time ^___^. i charge with a clone controller... i dont yet have an AC adapter suited for charging... 3 volts, but we're talking 600 mAh... a little high i think... how much are you using in ur AC adaptor?

oh and ive heard putting 5v to the controller frys the chip thatg sends the commands like forward back left right turbo so unless you get info from some1 who has used 4 batteries dont try it

pie- yeah I use a 3V - 800mah AC adapter. Yeah I think it's a little high and the battery gets a little hot, but it works great. I;m thinking of adding a resistor I think a 10 ohm...
I believe if you have 5.5V, it fries that circuit thing(i forget the name).

C cells have more current capacity, meaning they will last longer. Given the same voltage, the current will be the same; the load dictates this. Increasing the voltage with a given load will increase the current.
I would not recommend going above three cells. Also, if you want to increase the battery life put the same number of cells in parallel. For example,
+cell- --- +cell- --- +cell-

+cell- --- +cell- --- +cell-
| |
|---controller circuit-----|
Some alegbra ... V=I*R (voltage equals current times resistance).
regards.

Getting hot ... BAD idea ... adding resistance GOOD idea. Smart chargers (not included with microRCs, thats why they give you a timed light) monitor temperature as a means to regulate the current used to charge the batteries. The fact that the battery did not burst into flames is no reason to continue using the battery ... I would throw it away and get another one, you have stressed it and potiential hazards now exist.
If the battery is Ni-Cd ... well Cd is bad stuff, my father-in-law got cancer from working with it and I was handed a 35 page manual on handling Cd when I began work as a research assistant in grad school where Cd was involved with the manufacturing of thin-film solar cells.
regard ... be safe.
