charging port and more ideas....

after looking at lexars' work, i am more interested in using a quick plug type charging port rather than having to continually open and close the electronics bay.
lexars charging port

having discussed this type, it seems this particular choice may not be the safest for the electronics...i tried to use micro deans plugs however they required to much force to plug and unplug. no easy way to use them without breaking something or fabricating a metal part to hold it. does anyone else have any ideas?

also, i had the idea of using micro leds to display the status of the battery charge....green=ready to go, red=time to recharge, etc. the problem is i have no idea if this is possible or whats involved, electronically speaking. does anyone have any insight?

interested in comments/suggestions/ideas/questions...i'd like to incorporate what i can of these ideas into my next project.

very interesting! how did you glue the micro plug to the chassis?

i wanted to cut a hole to have my micro plug show in the back, only when the tail gate was down, to keep it nice and clean
here

this is my battery pack/onn-off switch setup...you can see how it fit into the truck in the previous picture...my problem is i dont know how attach the micro plug you can see on my battery pack to a cut out into the rear gate panel with my on/off swtich...especially since the micro plugs are such a tight fit with eachother. if i file down the male plugs so that they fit into the "charging port" without pushing the entire thing in or pulling it out, would it effect the quality of the charging or cause more resisitnce/heat? it would be attached to the copper rear gate, but that would just melt the surrounding plastic...and i don't want to come back to to it to find the rear bed in a molten pile it would be nice to have the leds on either side of the on/off swich for easy visibility or on the other side of the charging port below the on/off switch.

so it would look similar to what it does now , with the charging port and leds covered by the rear tail gate. i think it would be an awsome detail!

i used superglue(cyno) to stick the charging socket down..underneath like this is perfect for my truck and its not visible when viewed the right way up.
to turn my truck on i have a tiny switch which is on the back of the truck, again its hardly visible.
