Spring ant. and TV ant. range tests
OK, I did some experiments just to satisfy myself that I wasn't exagerating the range of my spring/TV rabbit ear antenna mods. The tests were done outdoors with new batteries in the controllers. My wife stood in the yard and held the forward control as I walked away with the cars at shoulder height. A 27 Mhz car with spring antenna and TV antenna controller mods went 375 ft before it started sputtering! A 27 Mgz 350z with the factory antenna wire went 160 ft. The 49 Mhz RX8 with factory antenna wire went 210 ft. I don't have a 49 Mhz car with an upright spring antenna now (I modified them all to fit inside of the body). So, I can't test the range, but I would guestimate it would go over 400 ft. These measurments are accurate as I've measured certain spots on my property many times for utilities and such. You don't have to believe me, but it is true!
You can see the mods on the cars and the original range estimates here.

I got a good 100ft (or should I say paces) with a stock 40mhz panther clone. I did that in the mall and it would have gone farther if I could have seen it good enough to keep it straight
Thanks for the info azimov.

That's excellent for right out of the box!
I must say, I was amazed at the range for such simple mods. I don't need this kind of range for my track, but it is nice to know it's possible.
