Tank Battles

Is anyone conducting Digi-Q tank operations on a regular basis? There doesn't seem to be a lot of action on this forum recently. Just wondering what the level of interest is.

How are you setting up your combat situations?

Well right now all I have is a Panther G, but a friend just ordered a Tiger and Panther from Hobby Link Japan. So I'm not doing any battles now, but when he gets his, we plan on using some wargaming terrain to fight on. Probably won't happen for a month or so, but I post some pictures when it does.

The problem with DigiQ tanks is that you can't hide from your opponent.
My Tiger and Sherman are great fun to fight on a coffee table, but what's needed is the ability to see from the tanks point of view. Thats why I am fitting a wireless video camera to my other tank, a 1/16th scale King Tiger. It's a lot more expensive but I think it will be a lot more fun to battle with.

I get what you mean about hiding. Obstacles like the ones included in the Winter Opposition set give you something to hide behind, offering protection from cannon fire. The enemy can still see where you are. The challenge in battle becomes 'who can maneuver better'?

The best play surface might be more along the lines of a board game like monopoly, etc. The board would have various structures to maneuver around, offering cover, and requiring strategy and good driving to battle effectively. Obstacles which require climbing would be kept to a minimum. In reality, these tanks appear to be better suited to smooth, somewhat slippery surface. This allows turning in place, etc., without tracks slipping. The slippage of the tracks, seems to protect the gears from being damaged or stripping.

Fighting in the open sucks. You need a place where you can hide. I find a table covered in plates overturned with cups and pots is the best. it gives a nice urban warfare like experiance.

BTW my test diorama is nearing completion. I built it to fit on a shelf so its to small for combat. let me know what you think.

Unfortunatly, I don't have desert camo to match my North African theme.

Thanks for your interest Zot, I cut 4/8ths inch plywood to fit on a shelf. After that I nailed on 3 scrap peices of wood for mounds.Then I took a wrath and sanded like heck. Then I cut newspaper into small strips and papermached them on the wood. After that I got some sand and gravel from my yard, and mixed the sand with Wood Glue. This method works very well, because when the sand is wet its no different from sand soaked in water so its very moldable, but when it hardens its there to stay.

When im done laying down all the sand Im going to spray it with Testors Dull Cote to seal the sand down better, not that there is a problem.

Im not done with it yet, Im considering adding a few ramps up to mounds to avoid scratched paint from roll overs - extremely annoying. And I might add some shrubs. I dont know about the shrubs, if I add them it might only be a matter of untill they will be damaged.

I'm open to all suggestions/comments

To solve the hiding problem you need to make a portable Battle field with trees and buildings elevation changes.Like I did out of white styrofoam it fit on my lap or a coffe table.Check out my site for tipsMicro r/c toyz digi Q tanks
