Last night I soldered on a new antenna, to help with the range
on my new supra. After I was finished there was no noticable difference. So I opened up the controller and noticed it's a rev. 5 board and a new cripple capacitor. You have to take off the 2 screws that hold the board to the front of the controller, it's on the opposite side of the previous cripple cap., it'll be the only one there with a number 8 on it. Hope this helps.

Question

I really need some help with my new supra i got just recently. Its range is horrible and i already unknotted the antenna but i cant seem open my controller for some reason and i dont wanna push it because im afraid it will break. Can someone like give me a thorough runthrough of how to remove the capacitators? It will be much appreciated and maybe can someone give me other mods that will increase the range???

Hey riceburner this may be a silly question, but did you take out the batteries?

I had the same problem with my supra... The way that I fixed it was by adjusting the (pot filter) under the clear PCB cover... I know that nightwing stongly suggests to not do this, but I disagree.. Read what he says about it and decide for yourself.. My stutter is all gone. It went bye bye...lol

Lightbulb

Well what I did was first removed the crippler cap, soldered on a new cat 5 antenna to the pcb in the car (about 6" in length) that helped alot.
Before I did all that I was only getting about 3'-4'(inside), now I'm getting bout 10'-15'(inside). I think one of the other reasons that the range on the Supra's is bad, is cause the antenna on the controller is shorter than any of my other rides.
Then there's the real tricky one, the crip on the pcb in the car, excellent skill required. Check out the link below for images of the mod.

Interesting fact for all you bit-chargers:
The ideal length of your whip attenna is the same length as the half wave-length travels in one half pulse.
Before you rush out and get hold of electronic books to find out what your ideal length attenna would be. I would warn you that a 35mhz char-g needs an ariel about 13 feet long.

Tortoise-Licker, isn't it also the case that an exponential scalar of that 13' is more optimal than a random length? So a 13' / 64 = 2.4375" would be better than 2"?

tinirc has a point about the scaler length but how does the not under the board affect that when an antenna crosses itself the effective range is changed
same as being coiled
also on these freq's if you do use a coiled antenna the coil should be in the upper third of the length, not all the way to the board
