Real 4wd

hey guys, it's been a while since i've laid hands on a bit, but i was thinking about a new 4wd idea after my Suzuki spun out in a parklot hehe. What if i took the back ends of 2 bits, the drive trains, and have one stationary. the one in the front be pivoting in the middle. Using the magnets and coils to turn the front pivoting drive train, I could have a 4WD with out all that crazy U-joint stuff.

upside: what isn't better about 4WD? better traction, better handling, no more spin outs.

downside: battery life and lack of suspension.

let me know what you guys think.

later.

King of Japan,

It's a creative idea but I don't think it will work.

First, I don't think the electromagnets are strong enough to turn all the weight of the motor/clip/axle and tires assembly.

Second, it wouldn't steer very well. In normal steering, both turning wheels are on different shafts because the turn angle makes one wheel spin faster than the other. You'll have one wheel going around the corner and the other dragging around the corner. In front wheel drive cars there are cv joints which keep the outside wheel turning faster to keep up with the turning rate of the inside wheel, which has a shorter distance to travel.

Third, being that no two motors are exactly the same, both motors will spin at different speeds, putting extra strain on both, which will cause one or both motors to fail prematurely.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. Don't let me dissuade you from trying it out.

the way u can solve the problem is to put a differential in the front axle. u could get it off a putchi maru. if u have a differential, the motor speed and the wheel travle probelm would be gone. u'll have a ball diff like in a micro rs4 but i dont think this is archivable.

if you want real 4x4 action, go to TRU and get a micro rc 4x4 monster truck by kid-riffic for $14.99. these things are awesome! put in a another batt and they fly! they're great just the way they are, but i know you guys love speed.they steer like a tank, and you can drive over your bits!
