I don't know, but I would suspect that corrogated plastic would acutally be more dense (more wieght per area) than balsa. balsa is REALLY light.

I've been building r/c planes a while... A balsa airframe covered in tissue is the norm for endurance rubber power planes (sometimes covered in a very thin poly film), but i'd think that a good light density thin foam sheet would work well too, especially since it would be more durable.

What do you figure would be best to use as a prop? Or more to the point, does anyone know where to get a prop/fan blade small enough?

but onna those lil rubber band powered plains rip off the extra stuff and put a bit motor, put the pcb right below the main wing and make it turn with the coils placed in the back, cant be that hard. can it? im gonna try this out soon with an extra pcb i have lying around.

For a prop... Since the low power and weight of this thing indicate a pretty slow machine, a largeish prop, 3 inches maybe, with 4:1 gearing would probly be my guess for a good powertrain. Somehting i'm gonna try is the gearbox/motor/prop from an "E-charger" plane from walmart. I dunno if they still sell em but this is what they look like. It doesnt have enough wing area to fly right, and instead of a batt, it has a capacitor that lasts like 30 seconds. After i get some other pending projects done, i'll throw together an airframe or stick it on my Peck Polymers "Stringless Wonder" Another good Peck plane is the R.O.G. (but i'd suggest widening the wings 2-4 inches) With rubber power in a gym (with the landing gear and small wings like they are on the plan) I got a best flight of 45 seconds (taking off from the ground) I'm not sure how it'd fly with the added weight of bit parts (considering the plane is usually like 10 grams with rubber) But you could scale it up some.

The Peck Stringless Wonder and the E-charger plane.

I dunno what youre talking about... you mean the big jetliner lookin things?

And as for the e-charger batt, why not? Its not too big for the little foam e-charger, and the stringless wonder is much bigger, so it should be fine. To control the motor, i'm thinking about using a transistor that would be tripped by the bit board and feed power from the echarger batt to the motor. The bit board could have a separate bit batt or the layman's cells. that way you could still control it after the echarger batt was dead.
