variable speed
my friend came up with a prototype controller mod last night for a pulse speed controller. it works fairly well and you dont have to mod the car. hes gona order some motor speed controller chips soon and ill post the final results. essentially there will be a slider installed on the transmitter for a throttle. this will work with all tiny rc cars.

its probably gona be like a month or so before we get it done. it will cost about 5bucks(3-4 pounds) to do this with minimal change to the conroller body. i imagine just drilling a hole in the side of the transmitter will suffice. youll be able to make it so it idles along and then gun it. its not gona be as good as analogue control but it will allow you some better control. theres a similar idea in bit science.

If this is doable, and thats an IF, it would make the booster sets
worthless.
What I don't understand is how would it control the amount of power going to the motor from inside the controller?

it doesnt control the power. it is a pulse circuit. on off on off. what you would be able to control is the speed of the on/off

Nah, I'm sure it's doable...He's probably talking about using a solenoid over the forward button, regulated so you can control how fast/slow it repeatedly presses the button...Simulating speed control.
Just a guess though.

close. motor speed controller. my friend has a pulse controller that we hooked up and it worked. his is huge and not as sensitive as a motor speed controller but it worked for initial testing purposes. as far as he could tell it will be really simple to install. ill put detailed pics up when we get it working.
heres a link to the part that were gona use
hes gona put an order for stuff to them anyhow pretty soon.

For 3-6 Vdc motors @ 0.5 amps. Features a pulse width modulation design thatcan vary motor speed from 5% to 95% with little loss of power.Use with any 3-6 Vdc power source
Thats what the site says about the item. So first you are gonna need a triple cell mod, maybe get by with a 2 cell. Then it will be SLOWER than the regular bit (runs at only 95%). Plus there will be a little loss of power, which a dual or tri cell should help eliminate.
I think its a good doable idea, however it isn't competition for the booster set. The booster still shoots more power to the motor, and is faster than a regular bit when boosted. Still i like the Epoch for more proportional controls.

if you would read what i posted earlier its not going to be hooked up to the motor. the power going to the motor isnt going to be effected so you could use this in tandem with a boost car.
this mod will be entirely in the transmitter circuit. our crude results were very promising. now we just need a smaller pwm controller.

read up. we dont have the motor controller that we are going to use yet. all he has is a pulse controller that isnt as fine tuned for this but it did work. it will be easy to do tho and ill put up pics when we do it.

You would probably need a separate 9 volt power source to physically power a solenoid to press and release the forwards button at variable speeds. In order to make it operate smoothly, it would probably have to press and release at least 100 times per minute...a process which would probably wear out your controller.
However, pulse circuit is something different.
Anyway, install for this unit will require at the very least a decent amount of soldering. So I don't think its really a single drilled hole and a part. Just to keep everyone down to earth.
However, sounds interesting...keep us posted!

it only requires soldering in two places. one to one of the leds and one to i dont remember wehre in the circuit he put it. it is removable if you dont like it as well.
the drilling was referring to physical modification to accomodate for the new electronics.

Good luck.

ya. i think it will make these even more fun to drive. i think this mod will also work on steering. we shall see about that.
