I think the mustang is perfect! especially the rear fenders - says "Muscle CAr" all the way. I can't wait to see the Explorer. Have you thought of doing an F-Series Pick-up? If you want to sell these in the States, Pick-ups will SELL!

I've been struggling with the Mustang and haven't put any more Time into the Explorer. I picked up every thing I need to make molds and once the Explorer is done, I'll make some "copies" and cut the back of the roof off and have instant Ford pickup.

AJFoot: I think the Ford Mustang should be competed. Depending on the end result I may buy it.

I think it should be completed to. I could just call it done at this point, but I want it to be perfect, so I keep messing with it. Mostly I keep reworking the wheel wells. I don't know, I guess I'm just being too anal about this.
As soon as I'm done with this and produce at least five good pieces from molds, I guess I'll be confident enough to try selling them.
The plastic I have isn't going to be clear though. It's a light tan color, so until I can get some clear plastic, the windows will have to be painted. Does anybody see this as a problem? Should I wait until I can get some clear stuff before I start making these?
Or just offer them at a lower price than I was intending? I was thinking of charging $10 US for an unfinished(unpainted) shell shipped anywhere in the United States. Any thoughts?

I was messing around with the plastic resin I have and some modeling clay and well... I basicaly squished the Mustang model into the the modeling clay and made a crude mold, mixed up some plastic, poured it, sloshed it around and made a not to dissapointing 'copy' of the car. Well it sucks and it's all distorted but I just wanted to see how the plastic worked.
The whole process took about 5 minutes, from mold squishin' to the hardened end piece of plastic. This plastic is some cool stuff. I can't wait until I can make an official mold and start hammer'n these things out!

Good progress! [except for the crack in the cast] I now think it's almost ready for production.

That is the second coolest thing I've seen all week! I can't wait till you start selling. The clear plastic will be very nice, but you'll be able to move the tan ones.

Still not done with this thing!
After alot of non-progress I just ended up making a silacone mold of the Mustang even though I wasn't finished with the body yet. I came to the conclusion that epoxy is to hard to work with. I kept breaking the front off the car after I cut out for the windows and the epoxy is just too hard to file, I keep wearing out my files! and I go through sand paper like it grows on trees.
So I made a two piece mold (think clamshell) and mixed up some casting resin from http://www.alumilite.com poured it in, squeased the two mold halves together, and now have a solid car body that is just as strong as the epoxy, not to mention sands and files like butter and is probably a little lighter.
So I'm back on track and this will be done asap.

are you wet sanding or dry sanding? wet sanding usually allows your paper to last longer as the water is constantly cleaning the paper preventing the material your sanding from gunking up the sandpaper and rendering it useless..

Yeah I'm wet sanding. I'm just totally wearing out sand paper, not to mention sanding discs for my dremel.

A tool for every job...
Exept the one that does MINE!
I understand your sanding woes. I am working on my degree in Ind.Design w/ focus on transportation so making molds and taking them to comlpetion is habit almost. Since I live too far from the school to benifit from the campus shop or tools... I spent past year + buying tools, making benches and jigs etc till I actually have more resources than they do! (of course if I lose my job it all has to fit in my studio???) Along the way I've bought strange or new tools just to check them out and found one you can benefit from. It does require a scroll saw, but go to the flea market or? and buy the cheapest working one you can, or spend $30-40 and get a decent Dremel brand (recommended) then CHECK THESE OUT
or get em local. A little practice and you'll be doing manicures on the side. SEE ATTACHMENT.
I'm near to completion on a little p'ject myself...like you I insist on perfection. This is even my first mention, but just to get some drool goin... picture your Bit (or Zip) rollin' "Tres" (that's right...20's are for Modifiers) Anyway i'll be done soon ie...2-3days. I'm not sure if the Body/ Chassis stuff will be easy to dupe though so I'm looking back to find shortcuts.( It is not from a mold but a highly altered body for another toy car. ( not Modifiers!)) Keep it up and I like the Mustang ( my 454 Dooley adds... NOT FORD, JUST YOUR MUSTANG)

Wow! I definitely think that the Mustang body is looking great! Now I just need to wait for it to come out.
