NiMH Cell mod
Has anyone done this mod? I'm on QFM and it says that you get runtimes over 20mins long. So I just wanted to know whether anyone had done it and what the results were like. Does the car go the same speed as with the normal battery?

This is a relatively SIMPLE to do mod, it involves no soldering.
Just open the chassis, lift the PCB, pull out the NiCad battery (comes right out, no soldering) and put the new NiMH in.
I pulled a NiMH out of a Zcar (Bit clone) and upgraded my Bit with it (it's a 100mAH batt). It's easy to do, and gets better runtimes.
Definitely a recommended upgrade, especially since it's so easy to do.

Ok thanks for the info.
I was just telling my mom about the BCG's and she was like - "when are you going to grow up?". I'm sick of people thinking RC cars are for little kids . It's like because they see the Tyco and Nikko adverts on TV they think ALL RC cars are for little kids, which isn't true. They just don't have a clue, and it gets on my nerves.
I just found a surface that would work well. It is underlay for laminated flooring, looks like it would be great to use. I have some in my house but I don't think I'm allowed to have it.

What does your Dad think? Cause if I didn't know about R/C cars and I had a Son that came home with one...We'd have a track and 2 cars setup BEFORE Mom knew what hit her!
If being grown up means not liking R/C anymore...Then I REFUSE to grow up!

Dont worry about growing up and not liking rc cars, i've just ordered one of these things and i'm 30!,
All getting older means to your RC car hobby is that you will be able to afford a few £1000 RC petrol cars to play with as well !!

BitChar-G battery cells
BitChar-G battery cells are not commercial cells (meaning they do not have industry standard dimensions) like A, AA, AAA etc. This is why you cant and wont find them in your local electronics shop. They are industrial cells, used for specialty applications, usually for OEM or industrial purposes. There are only a handful of industry manufacturers who make the size, but the dimensions vary by manufacturer by +/- 1 or 2 millimeters, because there is no set dimension standards.
This cell is available by buying a BitRacer, and taking the battery, or buying a cheap clone and doing the same. you can also go to QuestForMadness.com and buy one online for $3.

I just did this mod and it's awesome. I purchased the batts from QFM (highly recomended) and did the mod in about 5 min. Be sure you follow the instructions at QFM's website and bend the contact a little. Be careful, it looks like you could damage it if you don't use 2 screwdrivers (i.e. bust the terminal off the chasis).
My results - I charged it once for 45 sec and ran for 15 min. Then charged again (the battery was not dead yet) and ran for 30 min. and it was still going. The last 10 min or so had degraded performance but the first 15-20 min. I could swear had better performance!
All in all a worthwhile mod. Maximum gain for minimum effort.
