Update: I need a body!
Here's what I've been up to:
Panther clone with green gears and red motor. Mitsubishi Lancer body.
Once I started disassembling, I painted the steering knuckles, modified the set of rear wheels I pulled off the back, installed them and made front drop (lift?) axles, carved a stiffness molding off my stabilizer bar and reinstalled it upside down, so I now have independently sprung syspension.
Then at the back end I carved an axle height thing (bullet packing) and CA'd an axle-tube (Q-tip) to that, next I ripped the tires off a stock axle to get the transfer gear, snapped that into place (stock axle mount), and slid a short section of lightly crimped Q-tip onto the non-gear end to keep it in place. Then I wiggled the non-gear side wheel off of the axle that would be my road wheel, slid it through my axle-tube, and reinstalled the wheel. Then I used "Handi-tak" to secure the monster's rear axle height thing and set my gear lash.
Then I took a the unused parts of my shirt-clip and a solderless connecter to make my lifted charging points.
It runs well, can do a wheelie if you try hard enough, the only thing is that FWD and REV are switched due to the extra gear. And everything can be removed and replaced as stock if I want. It's slow, and not very torquey though. and I could use bigger wheels for keyboard rallying.
