embarrasing question

I have a terribly embarrassing problem. Today I went out and bought a battery pack from the LHS. It was a PMR and looked good. I brought it home and it zapped my ESC. It popped and smoked and of course does not run anymore. Here are the specs:
7.2 volt 1100mah 6 cell battery just out of the package - I never charged it.

DId I fry it cause its 1100mah? I didn't think it would be to much - just give longer run times. If so please feel free to verbally smack me around. :-) Or was it the ESC? Next is a new ESC. I'm smart enough to guess buying another stock ESC to use with this battery is money down a rat hole. Any suggestions on a new ESC for someone without a whole lot of sodering experience and keeping it cheap. If I choose to keep the battery I don't want to go through another ESC.

Oh and can I get this all repaired before 3pm when my wife comes home and asks me what I did with my day!:-)

A whole lot wiser.

well i think you were just unlucky...ive got both my RR on 7.2 and no problems
1100mah means longer runtime ans will not damage your car.

I'm not an r/c or battery expert but I have an idea on a why it might have fried your ESC but I wouldn't know for sure. I looked at the URL you posted for the battery you bought. The site says :

These cells are voltage Enhanced with our exclusive "blasting" process which lowers the internal resistance and raises the average voltage in the cell giving it more power.

Ok this pack is rated for 7.2v but it has a "blast process" which "raises the voltage" basically. I read that the stock ESC in the DRR can only take up to about 8v. It's possible that the pack puts out more than 7.2v and maybe it peaks out over 8v or something and that's what zapped it. But like I said I'm not an expert. I hope you get it fixed!

+7.2

ryan
yeah I had thought about "blasted" meaning more than 7.2v. If the pack is running higher it could easily fry an ESC. So now its a voltage meter to see what the actual voltage reads. Its kinda dangerous shipping something that you know is
hotter than listed. But I guess if a person had an RS4 their ESC may handle it off the bat.

Going to da shack for a meter. Then to the LHS....

well a 7.2 means it has a nominal voltage of 7.2 volts

it will actually peak at around 9.5-10v depending on type/age

resting voltage after a charge will be around 8-8.3 volts again depending on age/type.
