dual bat probs
my zip had two batts then i did some pcb mods (removed R17 &R18, jumped R16, R19, R20, & R21) and just put one bat in it and it worked great almost seemed like longer run times than before. Then i lost my other bat so i ordered new ones put them in and the run time is now about five seconds. the charger has been wired directly to the bat terminals. Oh and after i put the new bats in the green light just dims instead of going completly off like before. Could the batteries faulty.

the batts ended up being fine it was something in my wireing (don't know what). now i have a new prob the + wire came off my pcb and whe i tried to solder it back on but the solder got into the steering wires. My hands shake to much and my soldering gun is cheap. now i am looking for someone to resolder the wires on the pcb. it's an easy fix with the right tools.

alright i got it fixed by a friend at a local electronics repair shop now the batts are 150 mah and the car doesn't seem to be charging fully the longer i leave it on the controller the longer it goes but 5 min seems like an awful long time for 2.5 min of play time. any way to charge faster?

Have you tried charging your car with a 4AA holder? I did that to mine after the dual bat mod and was impressed with the results.

i fixed the charging prob! rigged up a plug (similar to the idea in the zipfaq but when plugged in it just bypasses the batts to the charging base) in the back of my controller so that i can use a higher voltage wall plug or car plug to charge. It charges great but i am still not impressed my buddy has a bit charg A we havn't raced but it seems faster than my highly moded zip. Mine now has the FF NOS motor and red gears. I was hoping to spin donuts when i got this thing done without a pcb swap. any suggestions on what to try?

I hate to say this, but bits are almost always faster. Go buy a cheap clone and do a 3-cell for X-treme hilarious speed. Either way, you probably have the fastest zip for miles

since i have noticed after owning one that zips are a waste (sorry all u fans out there) i think there's an 11.99 shen qui clone my name on it at hobbytron
Now that that's off my chest i did the no reverse mod and that helped alot but it still would have been better to do all this to a bit or clone

Well....
I swapped a clone PCB into my ZZ last night and I am VERY impressed with the speed increase! I have the NOS motor and green gears. I used a 27 mhz PCB so I could use my ZZ Tx (I also did the cat5 antenna on the car, and a longer antenna & joystick mod on the Tx).
My ZZ is now as fast as my MicroSizer lancer with a 2.6 KIT motor. I can't wait to try my 3.8 in it .
Not too bad of a performance increase for a couple hours of dinkin' around. Now, I just have to get up the nerve to do the 2-cell mod...
Just my observations,
John

Yes, ZipZaps are some of the slowest minis out there. However, they have great steering. It's like the classic "Mustang Vs. Integra Type R" story. The R has better handling, but the mustang has better speed and sheer power. It's all about preference and track design.

i'd get ticked off at myself if i tried to do a pcb swap. there is just to much iddy biddy soldering involved for me and i hate saying i had someone else do it. when i get the urge i'm gonna tear into a clone and see what happens.

Of course, there are Hybrids Try to use a fast clone, like LXX,Shen Qi Wei or Precious.

I used a Rally Racer PCB- RR's are another name for a Shen. Decent, fast cars, easy PCB's to swap.
Too bad one sacrificed itself for my Mutant ZZ

fastbs: Do the pcb swap with a cheap clone and you will be impressed. I did that on my zip with the dual battery mod and it will easily do doughnuts. Now performance is much better than my bits. It will easily run on carpet. It does take a little skill to do the swap (draw pictures) so the steering & directions come out correctly. Stock zips are slow, but with mods they are amazing and the car still looks stock and can even use the pcb cover. Good luck.
