Question Soldering help..

Hey there just got my first mini..red rx7 with a new 2.6..and been looking at all the mods and need to do the range extension one.Now i don't have anythin in the controller in the controller but in the car the little black circuit is there. The car only goes like 8 feet.So i went out and bought a soldering iron and wanted to know some precautions for taking the cirsuit out ..thanks for all the help .

buy a bigger controller antenna and try that first. that little capacitor is really small and if you mess it up you will fry the whole board.

well ive never successfully done the cripple cap mod but i have tried 4 or 5 kinds of wire for an antenna and found that it doesnt make much of a difference. telephone wire is too thin and not very flexible. computer power wire is good and flexible. and the prestigious "cat-5" wire was about as good as the computer power cable wire. all 3 get about the same range. thats a good mod to practice soldering tho.

the most effective range mod would be to run a 3rd battery in the controller. that doubled the range easily. the controller antenna replacment is by far the easiest and least intrusive. those two in combination took my 27mhz that got 5-6 foot stock to 30foot.

essentially the same way you would run three batteries in the car.

ok you may risk frying the controller but heck they are cheap.

I did an antenna mod to my brother's clone. Used a cat 5 wire with the green plastic. Increased range 2 feet or so.
