Soldering help..
Hey there just got my first mini..red rx7 with a new 2.6..and been looking at all the mods and need to do the range extension one.Now i don't have anythin in the controller in the controller but in the car the little black circuit is there. The car only goes like 8 feet.So i went out and bought a soldering iron and wanted to know some precautions for taking the cirsuit out ..thanks for all the help .

buy a bigger controller antenna and try that first. that little capacitor is really small and if you mess it up you will fry the whole board.

Thanks for the advice..i'm just gonna put a bigger gauge antenna on the car.This is gonna be my firstt time soldering so a little nervous.Also i have a bigger car antenna from my little walgreens special, is there anyway that it's not bigger even thou it's bigger thanks for thehelp..Oh one more thing, can I just take some nail clippers to that circuit and cut it in half or is that jsut not gonna work>??

Sorry in a ruch to get out of the house .I meant if the antenna is bigger which it is,could it not be any better for range..maybe cheaper wire or something?

well ive never successfully done the cripple cap mod but i have tried 4 or 5 kinds of wire for an antenna and found that it doesnt make much of a difference. telephone wire is too thin and not very flexible. computer power wire is good and flexible. and the prestigious "cat-5" wire was about as good as the computer power cable wire. all 3 get about the same range. thats a good mod to practice soldering tho.
the most effective range mod would be to run a 3rd battery in the controller. that doubled the range easily. the controller antenna replacment is by far the easiest and least intrusive. those two in combination took my 27mhz that got 5-6 foot stock to 30foot.

Hey hogjowl thanks for all the tips..havn't even seen the idea for a 3rd battery..gonna try the frost then controller upgrade...so wish me luck and thank you all for the great advice.!!!

Well just did the 3rd battery in the controller and got another 6 feet.Good lord thank you..hehe,jsut wanted to race my friend to the end of the kitchen ehh.

I did an antenna mod to my brother's clone. Used a cat 5 wire with the green plastic. Increased range 2 feet or so.

Don't know if your using a bit controller buti went with 4 after the 3 and it's been ok all evening son has been playing with it nonstop .Just trying to help,but probally wouldn't have did it if read the frying issue hehehe..
