Metal shavings
Ok,
I had to put in a customer service report on a bad s2000 that I rvcd for Christmas. While I was on there, one of the questions asked was "Do you see any metal shaving by the white trim control?". On my other RX-7 microsizers which is about a month old I do see the metal shavings. Where is the coming from and is this a bad thing??

your car has a powerful magnet in the steering mechanism. the only thing between it and the floor is a piece of plastic. if it runs over a piece of metal it will stick to the bottom of the car. if it is heavy enough your car wont turn very well.
i used jbweld to glue a magnet to the tip of my controller antenna for just this instance. its nice and easy to pull metal off the bottom.

no its not bad at all its just your steering magnet picking up metal on the floor, all you have to do is take a stronger magnet and take it off, or just take it off with your finger, put your finger will not work as good

I've found that a piece of gel from a broken computer wristrest does wonders; rub it on the car, it removes dust and shavings, then rinse it in the sink and leave it somewhere to dry, and use it again the next time you need to remove stuff from the car...

Picking up metal IS a bad thing...it will tend to want to stay in one location below your chassis, instead of moving around, and since your steering coils are electromagnets and the shaving will permenantly attract your steering mag, it will keep your car in a permenant turn or prevent it from turning until you remove it. I drive my car around my door room, and as soon as it suddenly stops turning or refuses to go straight, I pick it up and pry off the little piece of a staple or whatever I had picked up.

I also had this same problem. the office is not the cleanest place to be driving these things around. we drive on the carpet a lot, which has all sorts of hidden treasures. i didnt have a magnet to get the chunks off the bottom so i stole a can of compressed air from the IT guys. it seems to work also. I like the idea of JB welding a powerful magnet to the controller though...

i have glued magnets to two controllers now. go to radioshack and buy rare earth magnets and put them in the car and use the stock magnet for the controller so you always have your magnet with you when you run your car.

i think everyone has the same problem...
i use a magnatized mini flathead skrewdriver to remove the little pieces of metal, then what i found makes life a whole lot easier is to set your trim where you like it and cover the trim and the bottom of the chassis where you get the metal shavings with a small piece of electrical or masking tape.
this also keeps your trim nicely in place.

doesnt it drag?
also another suggestion to everyone. instead of using electrical or any other kind of tape buy a roll of gaffer's tape. it is 10 or 15 bucks a roll and can be found at any photo supply store. it is reusable and doesnt leave sticky stuff everywhere. it is also a cloth tape like duct tape but a finer cloth. and it is black!!
