you guys almost have the right idea of what an intercooler does.the cooler cools the incoming air to the turbo for a cooler charge colder air makes more horsepower i should know i have a 97 civic hb with a stage 2 turbo greedy intercooler 1 stage nos(zex) nitto racing slicks up front and its dynoed at 315 horse to the wheels, not to sound ****y or anything its just a fact i worked three years on the motor and im damn proud. and the mod is the **** good work!

Technically "intercoolers" usually aren't intercoolers. They are aftercoolers. Intercoolers are for twin-turbo setups, where the air goes from one turbo to the intercooler to the other turbo, and then to the engine. However, everybody calls them intercoolers anyway, so theres no use trying to change that!

Anyway, no, they don't cool air to the turbo, they cool air OUT of the turbo. Turbos compress it, and that in turn heats it up.

no offense, but are you kids done reading the new super street?

a few points of interest:
1.an intercooler, is called an intercooler, because it cools the air from the turbo to the throttle body without it escaping to open air.thus it cools it internally within the piping from turbo to the throttle body.
2.as you compress any gas as you will learn in physics, or chemistry class someday, the gas itself becomes colder.eventually under a certain pressure which differs for different gases it will become a liquid.thus nitrous oxide while compressed in a bottle at 1100psi is actually a liquid, not a gas.it only becomes a gas again when it is depressurized into the atmosphere.
3.an intercooler works just like a radiator, only air is running through it instead of antifreeze.
4.the only reason you really need to use an intercooler, is because of the heat created, when the bearings of the center housing are spinning at a high boost level, they are traveling at an average of over 100,000 rpm.thus, the heat from the exhaust gases driving the turbo, and the heat from these bearings transfer to the intake side of the turbo housing.exhaust gas temperature(egt) during boost can reach as high as 1800 degrees farenheit.so imagine blowing air through a steel tube that is being heated with blowtorches to 1800 degrees.the air coming out of the tube, will be much hotter than the air going in.
5.who is GREEDY?greddy makes 1 turbo kit for that year civic.
6.zex, makes 1 nitrous kit.that's all.no stages.that's something you kids have learned from gran turismo.
7.what in the hell is a FART ecu?
8.if this 240 did exist, it would eat said honda for breakfast.i have been working with my buddy on his 98 240 with an sr swap for two years.no idea how much horespower it makes, but it has an apexi boost controller, afc, and turbo timer, nismo 425cc injectors, t25 garrett turbo rebuilt by majestic trubo with a 50 trim wheel, custom made intercooler, greddy type s blowoff valve, custom made intercooler pipes, trust radiator, trust 3"downpipe, apexi n1 3" cat back exhaust, tein HA coilover suspension, and kaaz limited slip diff. w/75mm axles.there isn't a street legal v-8 around here that wil touch it.
9.trust me, my best friend owns an import performance shop www.sevenspeed.com

Anyone who wants to battle go the battle of the imports this summer and we can make my claims offical. And you can also have more than one stage of nittros,(i dint get this from no damn gran turismo) . my car redlines at 12000 rpm i have over 8grand in the engine alone so bring your fastest fwd car and let see who wins.My buddy built my car he has his own shop here in stocton california.

1200 pounds, eh? So what are you riding on, wheels made of paper, a frame, and a drivetrain?

1200 pounds, hhahah, yeah, right.

What you're telling us is that your car is a drag queen then, it can't be street driven?

Mine is a daily driver.

I think I'm gonna have to call B.S. on you. A (stock) '97 Civic hb weighs 2253 lbs. I seriously doubt that you could have removed 1000 lbs of stuff from your car and still have it roadworthy.

Also, that car (stock) is 106hp. So I'll have to see a dyno sheet before I believe that you're cranking out 320hp.

As we say on newcelica.org, "no pics, no mods".

you do realize that your motor and tranny weigh in at around 500lbs. right?so the rest of your car weighs 700?that's about as much as a harley.i never said you can't have more than one stage of nitrous, i simply said zex doesn't make one.anyone who wants to build big horespower doesn't go with a dry manifold kit.look i'm just calling you on some things that sound like total b.s.and any piston motor that's built to go 12,000 rpms is not a streetable motor.oh nad by the way, these are the lisings for greddy's turbo kits.notice they only make one for the prelude as well.no stage one, stage two.

you people make me laugh my ass off i know what the **** i got and it aint bs so suck me.the weight reduction was accoplished using plexiglass windows and carbon fiber hood. all the metal in doors, and everwhere else has been cut out and renforced by firberglass. when i say street driven i dont mean like everyday or for comuting but i do streetrace it almost every week. the car only is set up to redline at 12,000 when racing, normally its at 9. And for the last time i have a stage 2 turbo from greddy. i got it from my local shop it says stage 2 on the back of the pipe inlet. i have 6in wide race whells in back and regs up front (intell micky come in) as soon as i can ill post a pic of it so this ignorance can cese. the car has been weighed on a truck scal at 12,687 pounds. So if you think its not possible i guess you know everything. i didnt want to start a big argument. but it looks like i have. Anyone here from stocton california go to the races on friday this week if it dosent rain me and my civic will be there. bring what ever you want v8 i dont care. look for the Mobil infintry sticker on my front window and lets RUN.

Hey, was there a truck on the scale with you? 12,687 pounds is quite a bit. It would do you well to proofread your posts before hitting the submit button. Your arguments would sound more credible (even if they were not). Also, for the record, a gas heats up as it is compressed, it does not cool down. The heat increase from the turbo is greatly due to that. As far as turbocharger bearings, most run on a thin layer of pressurized oil, with no balls (with some exceptions). This goes to everybody... Before posting, make sure your "facts" are straight. Until next time, remember, PV=NRT

A very simple way to end this is for you to post pics of the car (with the hood up) and a scan of your dyno sheet.

Until then, I suggest that you go buy yourself an English grammar book and a dictionary. Every post you make, you make yourself sound like a bigger and bigger idiot.
