dude, the cripple cap is in the controller, not the car. some controllers don't have it.

Uhhhh, no. In some cases there are caps on both car and controller.

but my understanding was the easier of the mods is to do the one in the controller...

The easier one is to take apart your whole damn controller for a crip cap that may not be there. In theory, this may seem like the easier mod, however if you have a soldering iron and a tiny bit of experience then the cap on the car is incredible easy, and if it's not there it's not a big deal to clean up. By the way, QFM is a fantastic site for any mods you're planning on doing.

If you don't know anything about soldering, don't try it on your car. Really. Don't do it.

not to be rude, but how do we know he really got a car this time and he's not just saying he did so he can ask the same questions all over again without anyone getting on his case?

Experience Shmerience. I was pretty much a first time solderer and I removed my crip cap no problem. 30ft of range gained!
