Every 27Mhz ZZ I've pulled out the box has had the same problem. Not such a short range though. I was atleast getting 3 feet, but that still stunk. Try doing a search for antenna mods to get some ideas to improve your range. I was lucky enough to have an old RC car controller laying around. I took the MUCH longer antenna and put it in my ZipZap controller. If you're good with a soldering iron, get some cat5 wire and just resolder it in place of the stock antenna on the cars PCB board. Make sure you give it some good length to. Both mods will help your range.

i have a 27mhz i know what you mean... all i did was take the pcb cover off and underneath the pcb there is a lot of extra wire. pull it out dont worry if its a lil long just coil it around a screwdriver

I wish I had more range, but having a very long range wouldn't do you any good because you can only see these little cars a certain distance.
