Question New to the forum and have a couple ? (checked the FAQ first)

Hey everyone...

I've been browsing the boards for the past few days and have really grown interested in this mini R/C phenomenom. I've spent the past few days reading the vast number of posts and have learn a great deal!

I'm getting set to purchase my first car shortly. However, I have a couple of questions that I want to get some clarification on before I take the plunge. I've read the FAQ and did a search for the information. I found bits and pieces, but nothing definitive.

My first purchase will most likely be the:

[b]Tomy Bit Char - G G-20 Initial D Set[/vb] - Is this an authentic set or one of the many clones? I've checked the box layout and compared it to the pics in Look Here FIRST! thread and it seems legit. However, I also know that clones are popping up overnight!
Here's a pic of the set:

My second question is regarding the LXX clones. I have seen one of the silver Castrol Skyline, which appears identical to the Tomy version. I didn't see anything regarding compatibility with the real Tomy minis. Does anyone know if they are identical or list the differences, if any? I'd like to get the real deal, but also pick up a clone to learn/practice modding.

Thanks in advance!

the initial d set is HARD to find, and if you find one, it will be about $10+ more...its an older model...and has become popular, and rare...

the lxx can use bit parts, and is sed to be THE best clone out there. the castrol skyline is a special edition tomy, but the clone is pretty much the same look a like....

get a real deal first, get a clone later...

Well MTL get to you first, so basically It just the way he say it Bit-Char-G are the originals and are made by Tomy. If you find some thing else that look like that original, yuo have only to look at the names and the house that make them. (microsizers, BIt-Char-G, and the other that I forgot its name) are original made by tomy.

about Mods

If you whant to MOD a Car mod a CLone one, they are cheep, what do you prefere to do a mod, a car that cost $10 or the one that cost + $30.00

regarding the LXX clones. that ones are the best clone. if you find one buy it, good for MODs

The LXX clones are basically OEM versions of the Tomy. Most of the accessories for the Tomy cars will work with the LXX. The LXX seems to be slightly faster than an original Tomy. It would be a good idea for you to practice your modifying skills with a clone so you don't screw something up. The Initial D set is a good choice, and is fairly rare. I know where you can get them in the US, but I'm no longer able to post the link on this forum.

I agree with getting the real TOMY cars first But if you must buy a clone, the LXX is quite good as from what I hear and also from personal experience.

I got my LXX a couple of weeks ago and it is not perfect but is acceptable. My problems with it is as follows: Paint chipping under the spoiler, Front right axle was bent, some of the lettering on the boddies was misalligned, and it was slow for a 3.0.
I have fixed all the problems I had with my LXX. Others have better luck than me with the LXX.

I own 6 TOMYs, that is the only brand I will buy from now on. You will notice the difference in quality in both the materials used and details.

But as other's have mentioned the LXX is a good experiment car

I'm a fan of InitialD, but I'm not sure if the "G-20 Project-D" is really that rare or not. I've seen it in a lot of stores recently. But an even more Rare Bit is a "G-08 Trueno tune-up Box" which has the same Panda Trueno minus the Tofu graphics

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies!

I've made up my mind to go ahead and get the Inital D set as my entry into the mini RC world. I really enjoyed the Anime and thing this would make an excellent gift to give to my favorite person - ME

I will also likely pick up on one of the LLX clones to test with as I don't think I want to trash the "Hachi" while trying something that I seen here.

Last question for the moment:

Will the original Tomy bodies and replacement bodies, fit on the LLX?

A few people replied saying that the LLX could use most of the parts, but I wasn't sure if that meant that there are some that aren't compatible.

the TOMY bodies will fit and vice versa. The motors will not fit properly without modifications to the chasis. LXX motors are slightly longer and can damage a TOMY chassis if forced in.

Thanks Blue Bit.

By the way.. nice avatar pic. I'm a Transformer fan as well. Just picked up the Takara Transformers Colleection 1 & 2 (Jazz & Prowl) and they are sweet. Too bad they don't make them like that anymore
