Ummm...no it does not out handle those cars in anything twisty...
Those cars have 1.00 or less on the skid pad...where as the mp3 is about near 1.2 (yes lower is better)

umm.... your wrong about the skidpad. lower is not better. higher is better, you want to pull a higher amount of g's
the mp3 has a .84g skidpad
not 1.2 like you stated, id be happy as **** with a 1.2, thats a crazy amount of grip.
go get the november 2001 issue of road and track.
"Mazda's new MP3 is currently the best sports-car bargain in America"
Slalom Speed
MP3: 68.5mph
Z06: 67.1 mph
Ferrari 360 Spider: 66.6mph
look it up if you dont believe me.
i cant find a link to this particlar article, but if you want i can scan it.
The MP3 was also included in their Great Grip! article to find the best handling car that road and track has seen in the past year:

gah..too long of an article for me to read..
anyways...although the mp3 has been out for some time now, i have not looked into it much..
what drivetrain is it? and how much tourqe and hp does it have?
it does look like a nice car, maybe an aluminum touring style spoiler would look good on it...
what was the japanese name for that car? does the jp ver have more hp?

as for the mp3 info, its a fwd 2.0 4cyl. got 140hp and 142lb-ft at 4500rpm. yea underpowered from the factory, but boost helps that
i dont know about the aluminum wing, i like the smally understated (kinda) wing it has now. but thats just me.
the japanese name for the protege is Familia
so mp3 = familia sedan
protege5 = familia sport 20
those cars also come with the higher compression FS-ZE engine that makes 170 aposed to the 140 of the mp3, and the 130 of the protege 5.
the picture above is actually a japanese familia since AutoExe is a japanese mazda tuning firm, wow you should see some of their FD's : rool::
heres the site if you feel like checking it out. www.autoexe.co.jp might give some ideas for future rx-7 bit's
