Where's Waldo? (Or: Find the cripple cap...)
Would someone be so kind as to point out where my transmitter cripple cap is? I found the one in the car, and removed it, but I fail to see which cap is the offending one in the transmitter...

hey, doesn't look like you have one on that side....can you take a pic of the other side?
if ur getting really bad range...then i'm guessing there should be one capacitor oddly out of place on the other side of ur board

We have two: White Nissan Skyline (49Mhz) and Red Mazda RX-7 (27Mhz).

It appears to me that capacitor C8 couples the antenna signal to common. Could this be it??? Can anyone confirm?

how good is the range on the 49Mhz. My White 49Mhz skyline has pretty good range indoors about 20 stutter free feet!!! I've found the crip cap on the PCB of the car, but i don't want to mess with that.

Out-of-the-box, I'd guess 5 feet maybe? Both cars really lack in range. After removing the cars' SMT cripple caps, they got considerably better, but not more than 10 feet or so. After removing the knot in the receiver wires, and changing the transmitter antenna, we got about 10-12 feet before the infamous studder and loss of control. It is quite possible that the environment here is causing most of my problems, as we currently live in a condo. The closing on our new house is in 2 weeks, so I'll try them out on the wood floor there and check back in here. I guess I'm just used to my T3 truck that has a range of a 1/4 mile...

ok well, i had to get a replacment chassis because the motor tab on mine busted and i accident;y dropped it tweaking the chassis pretty bad. Well for some reason my new chassis wasn't as great with the range as the last. I found some Solid copper wire in my house and used that. Now my range was better, even better than the last chassis. I deffinetly reccomend doing the CAT 5 mod or somthing similar. It's not to hard to do is you already did the TX mod. I even went ahead and resoldered all the wires on the PCB to red and Black wires .
The environment can be the problem. I hacve noticed that driving in a cluddered area can cause poor range. But try the CAT 5 mod, it will really increase the range.
