Bit 350z has 2 foot range?
Anybody have a 350z with a range problem?
I went thru the rx car booster mod at QFM, but when I removed the capicitor off the car, it had little to no effect. I'm going to try different AA batteries but this sucks!
I must say tho, this newer bit is probably 300* better quality than my first one (first gen opendeck bB 27mhz) The steering is tighter, it works better on carpet, and the tires feel softer. Oh and the body detail is amazing in person, the pics I've seen on the net do not give it justice
anyways, are there any other capacitors on my 350z? I couldn't find one in the controller, and the one that I removed off the pcb board in the car didn't do anything...blah

Here's some pics of mine and what I've done to it so far.
RacerXero, drilling a hole in the front would be pointless as I undid the knot in the antenna under the PCB board and ran it directly out the back, instead of looping under the PCB board and out the front like the *mod* you suggested would do.
so far I have gained....0 feet.
this image shows the location of the capacitor that I removed.
Things to note on my car:
bit *clone* NiMH battery
8.25:1 gear set
Antenna extension
removed capacitor
the car turns on a freaking dime, I just wish I could drive it more than 5 feet from me...

shows the new gears and antenna mod
I too have a 3.0 motor, but I dont want to put it in the car, because as of now with the 2.2 motor and the boost function the car is almost too fast!

ok looks like I was exagerating, I just measured my range in my living room and its 13 feet 7 inches with the body on, +6"s with the body off.
still pretty crappy if you ask me, considering my old opendeck bB 27mhz bit char-g gets 35-40feet, and my "excaliber mini turbo gtr" 27mhz clone that the store I work for sells also has a 40 foot range...argh!

My Fairlady gets half-way decent range. I get maybe 9 feet indoors and 13-15 in the mall. But it is a great deal larger then the range with my Supra (5-6 feet if I'm lucky). I havn't done any mods yet (not even untying the antenna) so I'll just have to wait and see.

I heard that th 57 Mhz frequency is not licensed in the US, and it is the frequency some channels on television is broadcasted on. That causes a massive drop in range apparently.
Can anybody confirm this?

Well, I put about a foot of solid copper wire on my 350z for an antenna, that gives it about 3-4 feet more range... However it now tips really easily. Probably have to add the plastic underneath to prevent tippage.
Next up is the telescopic antenna.
Update:
Just added the telescopic antenna (just took one out of a small radio) it's about 12" long. I now get over 30 or more feet of range. I may extend the range even further by adding my old telescopic car antenna to the transmitter as well.

The solid copper wire car antenna works pretty good. The cat 5 mod doesn't work.
Sounds like the telescoping controller mod really turned out good for you. I may give it a whirl.
Has anyone tried a gold wire car antenna?

Well I sort of solved my problems by using a 100mm long peice of solid core copper wire in place of the stock car antenna. But it will still studder even when its like within 5 feet of me
but my range until the car will completely stop is up to 20 feet now, I am installing a telescoping antenna off a clone controller soon, just need to get around to doing it.

Telescopic Antenna
Tillek, how exactly did you mount your antenna on your remote? I looked and couldn't find a way to do it. Maybe your antenna is different from mine, I got mine from RadioShak for like $3.97. Please reply.
