ZipZaps.... hmmm I like the ZipZap scale better, the duribility of the rear axel is still in question due olny to the fact that most on these boards have had problems with the rear axle mounts not holding the axle in. I too was having this problem and since been able to correct it. I also had to correct a steering issue where the car would turn tight to the right but make wide sweeping turns to the left. Really easy to fix and in the process discovered how to improve my steering even more. As for the speed i was dissapointed even with the NOS motor. I fixed that issue with a PCB swap, cost $13.88 and the zipzap controller still works great with this set-up. I have heard some of the same issues with bits/microsizers with the exception of the axle problem. But this question is about zips
So for my opinion:
$20 for a starter kit is not a bad price.
The car right out of the box, while not perfect will provide a form of enjoyment to anyone.
We all buy these cars to spend our time making them better.
So why not spend $20 and spend some time improving one, Isn't that what a hobby is.
oppps too long sorry
