body size/thunderjets?
So, the Zip zaps are around HO scale/size right? has anyone tried putting the body of a Johnny Lightnig thunderjet on one?
I have a buick grand national body that I want to try, (already painted to match my regal) but the rat-shacks around here have no cars in stock.
I figure if I go with the QFM site's instructions for changing out the wheels It'll even look right.

Yep. I picked up a Baja Thunderjet and it will fit either my bit clones or my ZZ. I'm going to mod it to fit my Bit cloes. Pics here:

I tossed the Johny Lightening metal body and used the hubs and tires for my F1 Zip mod. The die-cast body would have fit though.

Make sure you get the Thunedrjets - the bodies are made of plastic NOT die-cast metal.

almost fits perfect
I slapped the body on there, and well it didn't slap so well. The grand national body has a kind of short profile compared to the ZZ. Plus, I'll have to trim the wheelwells out a little- oh the embaressment- a civic has a bigger wheel base than a buick.
So that means that some life-like slot car bodies and some old arora bodys will be close enough to fit too, if you wanna.
that'll keep the nascar guy(s) happy.

buick
It's on there, but I decided to do the dual battery thing too, and it's not fitting as well as I hoped. I removed the cover over the board, trimmed the sides, and filed down the front to get it all to fit.... then the dual batteries kick the board back up. Oh well. I'll keep working on it.... the dual batteries are a lot of fun. I don't think the thing will stop peeling out.
I think it's too much weight and not enough traction, too. Now, where's the camera.

i had one up at one point but i needed to clear space.
those bodies are pretty nice and take paint well. the only drawback is they clip onto slot cars from the side and i had to modify the front wheel wells. i tried wood putty to make it fit better but it didnt really cut it. but hey its a 4$ car.

I've had good success with "Squadron Putty". It's like wood putty for plastic models and such.

Hey Guys, I've been thinking about trying some of these too. I bought a collection of 21 TJets about a year ago. I have the bug, but I also have a really sweet Dodge Truck. I may try that one. I also have the Chevy Nomad, and the 67 Mustang, but I'm a little scared of messing them up. Oh well, I guess I must sacrafice one to see if I can make it work.
Brian, I'm using your idea for the car case from walmart. Here's an idea for you. If you buy a small tackle box (Plano, the same people that made the car case), you can dremel out an area to carry it inside your main case. Put all your parts and motors in it. No more suspension bars falling through the spaces in the dividers. I actually have room for five controllers, including the Nak, and the tackle box on the back side of the main case.
