is this normal?

i just broght a faf zz upgrade kit and hoping 2 find a zz. and so i just try using my zz nos and red gears on my bc. it seems 2 not fit till i give it a lil force. and after a couple of times puting the motor in and out, i realize that there is a split in the center of the place where the heat sink clamps into. was wondering if it happened 2 anne else.

Yeah, don't worry almost every chassis I own (4 till today) has the same "think".
Its not something big to worry about.

And it happens, as MTL said, if you tinker with them.

I never had a NOS or any other ZZ motor to use it on a Bit.

yeah, I did the same thing last night putting the turbo ZZ motor in my microsizer, It hasn't really affected anything, and when it does I'll just break out the super glue.

Mine has the same crack, but it is so bad now i cant even put a ZZ motor in unless i dont put the body on. this is because the body hugs the broke part back together and the heatsink tab slides out within 30 seconds of driving. and re super glueing hasnt really helped all that much, it just snaps the next time i pop the heatsink in. however im thinking about either modifing one of my bits to make it so the heatsink isnt so tight with the ZZ motor. OR maybe shave the piece out.

oh well ill report and finding.

I had the same problem with one of my Bits.
I just pulled out a little, the "tooth" of the heatsink that slaps into the chassis. So now holds better.

Try it, but be carefull not to break it.

Ive posted this picture a few times, but a little soldering iron or drimmel action on the chassis will take care of the problem with the ZZ motors.

One modified chassis and one non-modified chassis:

I don't believe it.

Just a few replies above you ll see that I gave an advise to binaryterror. And now I face the same problem.
But unfortunately the advise I gave to him is not working for this problem.

The point is that, just a while ago I got my 1st 3.8 motor and I cannot fit it in the chassis.
The heatsink cannot hold.

Do you have any idea how to fit the a 3.8 motor?
I got the motor from QFM.

-Thanks

Here's how I did it

I guess I should have explained the trick earlier (pics on the way as well, look for them along with pics of my cars).

Note that this is what worked for me, and I do electronic work for a living, so this might be harder for others than it was for me. Remeber to be patient, and to have a very light touch. It's also good to practice on motors you dont care about (like the blue one) to get the hang of it before you go and try it on your red or NOS motor.

First you need:

ZZ motors (I know, DUH!)
thin object with pointy tip (penknife blade is good, gotta be tough enough to twist with)
fine wire snips or nail clippers if you wanna get all ghetto bout it (esd safe clipper start at $16 at frys)

what you do is first compare motors between ZZ and BCG, notice that big lump in the middle of the clip....that is the problem.

each 'end' of that matal contact goes into the motor, only one is going to the motor assy however, the other is merely there for structural purposes/

now CAREFULLY, slip the tip of the penknife underneath the lump portion of hte motor contact and GENTLY turn to each side, to figure out which end is hte loose one, once hte loose end comes up, turn it carefully to the point you can get your cutter in and cut it past the lump. Fold remaining contact back down.

The contact is still over twice as thinck as the BCG one, but removing that lump reduces chassis stress greatly and makes installing motors an easier task as well. My "1.6" green ZZ motor still is a pain to fit, but that could be cuase i wasnt all that gnetle and moved the real contact up too.

Another bonus to this is that you dont have to mill your BCG chassis to install it, and time wise this mod is faster once you are used to it.

Good luck!

My Microsizer is less prone to breakage with what i've done. I'm pushed the Metal clip more inwards so it will be able to slide in easier. Now i can put the ZZ motors in without having to worry about breaking the tab, it still gives a tight lock with what i did.
