I think I blew my fet's
I just put a new motor, a 35K rpm with a 220 micro farad capacitor, in my H2 evo Xmod. it drove fine for a while, but then the throttle stopped working (steering still functioning), and some smoke came out. Did I blow the fets? if I buy the fet upgrade and install it, will this fix my problem and the car will work again? I didnt touch the antenna to the battery i dont think. the motor said it didnt need upgradeed fets. I dont know what to do. this is my first post, but i have read alot on this site and others, and i think i have a pretty good grasp on the principles of R/C. I couldnt find anything partaining to this problem. please help me, i would like to get this thing up and running again with the new motor, it was very fast for a few minutes.

I should have Given more details as to my set up:
H2 Evo
Stock 4 cell AAA
Bearings
I did have the underlighting hooked up when it blew up(not literaly)
The motor i got off ebay and it just says: "iplus 35k turbo evo motor"
I believe this motor is made by iwaver?
I did google searches for both, but couldnt find much.(iwaver and i plus)
Any help would be much appreciated.

What you shoulod start with is check to see if your motor still works, get a battery and try it out, it should run slowly on a regualr 9v (if you dont have one theres one in the controller)
If the motors bad try your stock motor again. Usually people think of this but im still going to mention it.
IF the motors good i would go ahead and replace the fets

FETs usually don't puff out smoke, they just smell like they are burned. I would look that that capacitor you have on there, there's a chance that's what blew. Typically, those will give you a nice puff of blue smoke. It might have been enough to break one of your motor leads.
You have to get a really expensive motor to fry FETs with only 4 cells. I wouldn't worry about the FETs just yet.

the motor is good, runs fine. I did notice one strange thing though: on the xmod motors the disc capacitors are connected between the negative and positive leads, and between the negative and the motor case; on my iwaver motor there is the big can capacitor between the neg. and pos., but the disc is between the positive and the motor case. Should i change the placement of the disc? also should i put a disc between pos and neg, or is the can capacitor doing the job already?
i actualy put the motor in my other xmod and drove around for a minute to see what would happen: the board right next to the power wires got really hot, this did not happen with the stock motor. It does say HOT! right there, but i never noticed this happening, not even with the stage 2 motor, wich itself gets quite hot. Is this the electronic speed control perhaps? will the esc smoke if it gets fried? the smoke definetley came from the board, not the motor, I couldn't say excactly where though.
Thanks for all your help everyone!

The FETs that drive the motor are right next to where you screw on the connections for the motor. If that motor was making your other car very hot there, I would say there is a good chance you did fry the FETs. Typically I haven't seen them smoke, just smell burned--that's not to say that they can't.
The capacitors on the motors are fine where they are put, typically they are blocking noise from the motor from interfereing with the rest of the electronics.

so the disc capacitors can be installed between the pos. and the motor case or the neg. and the motor case and it will serve the same purpose? or should it it be one or the other specifically?
