I ran my Microsizer 12 straight hours the first day I got it with four buddies and some knock offs. I can't even consider $5 per 1/2 hour. I would be interested in some other battery ideas of the rechargable sort.
I used the NiMH batteries in the controller. I've found no issues other than _longer_ run times for the cars. I may be losing battery life on the NiCad but after a full 20 hours of run time, I'll stick with the NiMH...

I reserve drastic measures like this for drag racing or track racing at a pay-event only. Cuz if you're gonna play to win you might as well play hard. (Didn't get to use my 3v setup this weekend though. )
Think of it this way: If you're going to drag race the car once, maybe twice for a race to win a prize.. why do you need rechargability? Just like a stripped down drag car in real life where they take out the battery, the alternator, power steering, A/C, etc, etc. It's not very useable on a daily basis but you got all that power now.

Enegizer makes Ni-MH (as well as, Ni-Cd) rechargables. I bought my charger and batteries at Sam's Wholesale Club (Wal-Mart affiliate) about 6 months ago for about $16 US. The kit comes with 6 AA batteries and 1 charger.
The batteries are 1.2 V or 1700 mAh....so don't expect any difference in performace. =( However, it always makes sense to save money with rechargable batteries.
If you don't have a sam's Wholesale club or Wally World near you...EverReady is the manufacturer and parent company of Energizer . Try their site for local area distribution.
Hope this helped.

Hey if you guys DO want rechargeable batts for your CONTROLLERS, you might try the Rayovac Renewal system. They're rechargeable alkalines. I've had really good luck with them, and I think they hold more voltage. More like a regular 1.5 volt alkaline.

Dude, those lith Ion cells ARENT rechargable. Though they do have rechargable camera cells, they dont have em in sizes that fit the Bit that I know of. Anyone PLEASE feel free to correct me with a part number and dimensions.
This is why we never posted this mod, cuz it just isnt practical to keep swapping out non rechargable batteries like that (though it might be worth it at a drag race with prizes involved)! Frequernt swapping means more chance that youll snap a wire or break the little plastic foot that holds your clear PCB cover down. **I hate wehen that happens**

I'm limping along on a PCB cover with one of the front feet and one of the back feet broken. Solution....remove your PCB and pull the wires from the body. Next, drill a couple of one hole in the chassis on both sides (left and right). Next take a small zip tie (those things people use to bundle wires) and thread it through the holes. Put the guts back in the car and the PCB back on. Put your damaged cover on, and bring the to ends of the zip tie together over the PCB cover. Slip the appropriate end of the zip tie into the other end (if you don't know what zip ties are, this will sound confusing as h*ll) and cinch it up. The minus is that whenever you want to take the PCB cover off, you'll have to cut the zip tie and replace it after you do whatever you're doing that required you to take it off in the first place. Cheap and dirty....Duct Tape gets the call
