will post pics soon, kinda hurt my wrist the other day, so i been off the computer for a while, also took some SAT practices so i was busy....anyways enough about me.
i was wondering, can you bind two pinions? like bind them in a L form?? you know mount one sideways and one straight, will they run or will there be just too much friction?? i wanted to use this set up since it owuld save so much space on the axle, since space is getting tight in the front end, especially due to the servo.....i will probably mount it on the chassis. i might run front coils and rear leafs with a smaller tire set up and a smaller tranny....decision, decisions, decisions.......

You mean instead of Crown gears, you want to use pinion gears? I don't think it will work because they wont mesh properly.

that is what i thought, what crown gears can i get then, i dont know much about slot cars so...im beat there. one thing i was thinking about is that maybe i do need those big crown gears, i dont know if smaller ones can hold up to the stress the tranny will be sending out, even more without diffs. it will also give it a scale look alike a chevy 14 bolt full floating axle. i gotta snatch some more ZZSE and ZZMT from Ebay so i can finish buiding my two little trucks.

This site grandt line may have the gears you need.Very small train gears and U-joints and I'd bet they are strong.I like the gear sets that are a bit offset which would allow the input shaft to be a little higher and they have sets that look like you could link axles and make a 6x6 very easily.
I have not bought anything from them yet but they do have some interesting items and the prices are great.

very interesting site you found there, a little complicated to grasp, since they pictures are just drawn illustrations. these parts look really useful bu t i prefer to do this myself, mainly because i dont want to have to pay and wait for parts i havent ever seen, and because i want this project to be my trial and error one, since i am gathering all the resources for a second micro build, to have two to keep each other company.
anywyas, a little briefing on my project, update: absolutely nothing. this project has been on hold since i am working on my SSMT 1/24 and my two xmod trucks, along side my mini crusher which doesn teven have a chassis yet......so i am being kept busy by al lthe other projects.

Those drawings are great for me since most have dimensions which I can quickly check to see how they'd fit.they are inexpensive also along with some very useful combinations.I cant make gears like that yet.
looks like I'll have to be the first to pick up some of those gear sets and use them in a few projects.
One of the other pages linked to that page also had some very small chain and sprocket sets.
The U-joints(dogbones) at the bottom look promising.
I have been busy at work far to much lately to get much done myself.

Not to get too off topic, but if you could get these done even without steering I am sure that someone in the slot car hobby would appreciate it. I have searched high and low and cannot find a HO scale awd slot car. I've seen it in the larger scales, but not HO.
I think you are doing a great job and can't wait to see what you have when you are finished.

I think it would be a lot eaiser if we didn't have to incorporate steering into this awd. I have seen some awd slot cars around before, in ho scale too. The steer is what is holding me back now.

I found some very very small drill bits (0.5mm-3mm) that are going to help me with mine, now I just need the time.
I have a 6mm x 10mm x 2.5mm bearing that fits tight on a 6mm aluminum tube that I hope to make into spindles.I wanted to use brass but I couldnt find any that fit tight unless I take a solid piece and turn it down to the right size.
Since the spindles are going to be like half a U-joint I thought about drawing them up and printing them out on label paper then sticking that to the tube so I can make 4 that are the exact same.
Once the labels are stuck on the tube I'll have the holes marked and also the outline of where to dremel it at.
If I remember to take pics I'll post.

Here is a pic just so you guys can laugh.(I'm LOL already)
Already printed on a sheet of label paper.
My plan is to cut one out and wrap/stick it around the 6mm aluminum tube and drill then dremel it out. Then repeat.
The long tab coming out is for the steering tierod and will be bent/twisted around flat ending 90 degrees to the kingpins and the other two are for the spindles kingpins.
I havent tried cutting them yet and expect it to go very slow and be difficult if not impossible, thats why I have six ready.lol
Those are not to scale, real world dimensions are 14mm tall x 18mm wide. Those tabs are 2mm wide.I'll drill the holes at 0.5mm to start and make them bigger as needed.

I was just looking at this post before going out and destroying some aluminum tubing and realized that I could also just cut these out of brass sheet material and roll then solder the seam.
OK well I'm off to cut/drill and destroy.LOL
