Actually my chassis design has space on the right side and yes I'd be changing the direction of mechanical motion.
I like the use of the POTentiometer to return it back to center automatically and to give that slight feel of proportioned control.
I have seen some slide POTs on the net that are 17mm long x 5mm wide but I need to look into the ZZse's POTS values to see if I can find something that can match up to that.
(I know you know this chilli)The POT is just a variable resister but the values it returns is what the receiver uses to control the steering motor which controls steering so while I may find a POT that fits I may also have to alter the values and that may be worse than just using the stock POT.
I know of a local hobby/train shop that has the small screws/bolts/nuts and thats what I was thinking of using.I'd bet there are atleast 20 local hobby shops near me that have what I'd need.
I have considered using a bellcrank If needed.simple to make.
I'd prefer to use all the stock parts as much as possible.
I have also thought of a worm gear setup with the stock POT on one side of the worm gear and the other side used for the steering control. It should be small enough and it would definitely have to torque needed.
LOL if nothing else I guess I'm amusing.

"Amusing" was not the word I had in mind. Perhaps "creative" or "imaginative" was more to my liking. It sounds as if you are the type who plans, considers, gives thought to, rather than those who simply slap things together as some seem to indicate they do.
I do hope we'll see your images when you're ready!

I do like to plan things out but it also slows me down.I need to DO more and PLAN less sometimes.
I will be posting pics here first when I have something worth posting.
When I get home from work I just want to relax so I get little done on it during the week.
I wonder if rumors of a new ZipZap line are true and if so all this may have been done already by RS.

The only thing I've heard, and that was about a month ago, is that ZipZaps will make a return, but not marketed by Radio Shack.
And, even if it "may have been done already," still you've put your own creative efforts into the project before having seen what your "competition" has produced. I would certainly find some satisfaction in that.
For me, the creative process is more important than the use of the finished product.
Best wishes,
chilli

Azimov--
My meter reads 10k for the SE servo pot (B103). Would the part be different for different generations?

TOO MUCH TECH TALK!!!! LOL i have postoned all my projects to next month, when i will move my work space down to the garage and have about twice the amount of room....also some new tools.....so yea, i gotta pretty much wait and gathe reverything for my projects for this month.
keep up posted with your stuff though...i am dont really care much for proportional stuff and things since its going to be a little desktop basher to run over my binder, books, pencils and such.

new dremel, tons of accesories and a pretty big set of bits. also you know, all the basics i seem to lack, like a third hadnd (most useful tool aside from dremel) and this really useful lamp/magnifying glass. air bursh and compressor, PAINT JOBS! bench grinder, table clamp press vise, hand drill set and a hobby knife set. right now i have been using my uncles stuff for my mods, thats why i am buying my own, so i can work at home.

I'm not sure Chili. I read that somewhere and it seemed to jive with my findings when trying to cram an Iwaver PCB in an SE. The Iwaver pot is 10k and the PCB would not work the steering with the stock SE pot. If the SE pot is 10k then the Iwaver board should just hook up no problem.
I know one version of the Iwaver/SE swap put a 10K resistor across two of the stock SE pot leads. Not sure why the builder would do this if the pot is 10K already. This wouldn't work for me at all. I had to custom fit the Iwaver pot to the SE steering servo to get the thing to work. Then, I had to replace the steering motor with a red one because the steering was to sluggish. After doing this, I mistakenly let the steering motor end cap touch the negative battery terminal in the chassis. Poof! Now I need a new Iwaver board.
If I'm wrong, maybe someone can tell us what the Iwaver steering pot is rated at.
EDIT: I just realized (from what I've read) there are two kinds of pot in the Iwaver PCB. A two wire pot and a three wire pot. I got the two wire pot version (which I think is the newer version) in an online tutorial I saw, the builder added that resistor. As I said, this didn't work at all for me. The discrepancy could come from having to wire a two wire pot on the Iwaver PCB to a three wire pot in the SE.

very nice, what gears are those? the stock ZZMT ones? are you going to keep the rear end that much wider than the front?
i have all the pieces to build my little basher....just gotta wait till November now. the only thing i am missing is the leafs and shackles...which will probably be the simplest part, jjust very time consuming.
i am thinking of just modifying a zzse frame extendedly instead of building one, or i might just make a little box with some frames.......gotta keep it simple, all iwant is a little basher for my desktop, non-propo and not very sophisticated. all i care is that it works smoothly and efficiently, and stays simple.

Those look like slotcar crown gears and the front looks to wide the other thing is the crown gears have to face opposite of each other.
Then again its just a pic of parts and not the finished car.
LOOKING GOOD

Thoes are slot car crown gears. And no, thoes aren't the finished axles. The front needs to be made the same size as the rear. It's just a progress pic.
