Heck yeah... but for a good strong crawler you're going to need to gear it down a bit. Look up the 4th gear mod.

i must be missing something here to this project. because when you acriculate to one side wouldn't that be turning the gear on drive axle and either help the motor or turn against it?

Nah, it just allows for the articulation to revolve around the center axel. Though I think there could be some torque applied to the front end when you get on the throttle causing the front section of the chassis to want to spin in the opposite direction. But, from what I've read, it's not a problem at this scale.
I'm still working out the details on doing one myself, so I don't know if this is a real issue or not just yet.

It *would* be a problem, if we had a really torquey motor; but at this scale when the motors produce under an inch-lb of torque, quit worrying.
It works, but it's not perfect. Though, have you ever seen a real offroad truck that was perfect? It's good enough to get you over all new obsticles, and let you play well past where you used to get stuck.

Ok,I have to say im enjoying my MT alot more now. This is a great mod.I've done a couple of things to make it better.
1.glued tire on back to stop it from flipping
2.attached battery to bottom to lower the center of gavity
3.removed the springs
4.weighted the tires
I still need to do the 4th gear mod. I understand it but am still looking for a good tutorial. It seems popular and ive seen it on pics dont know why cant find it.All new stuff Ive done has helped alot, though it steers like a tank now.Ty to all the great posters for the ideas.
I hope these pics help some

Here is how I weighted the wheel. All I did was fold up some tinfoil and stuff it in the back of the tire.I only weighted the front tires btw.

well for the 4th gear mod look here. www.gcrosset.com/zipzaps. i love my truck with the 4th gear mod plenty of power now, belive me it's worth it. i am also looking for wheel wieghts, the only thing i've tried to put in those slots was clay but it wasn't heavy enough, are you sure that tin foil will do the job?
ok with your acriculated mt hold the rear end with the whole thing in the air and give it gas and tell me if the front trys to move, this will prove my theory.

weighting the tires with tinfoil has worked well for me,its been a week now with no problems.Of course how heavey the wheel is depends on how many times you bend the foil before stuffing it in.I did as you asked and held the truck up as you asked. It jumps just slighty to one side at 1st in front but dos not try to twist or torque over on istself at all.The reason i think it gos to one side at 1st is that I dont have the weights even but its a very small jump.

4th gear mod
phew!!!!!!!
Finally I'm finished with my crawler. This mod was kinda hard for me considering I'm new to this stuff and don't have the proper tools. The biggest pain was filing the threads down on the the self tapping screw down where the gear would sit.I didnt have an zz gear so i got one off an old charger z I'd trashed.Works great, the crawler of my dreams is finally here.
Ive got the bug now I just need to find something to work on next.thx again for all your advice.

Please, guys . . . . It's a four-gear mod, not a 4th-gear mod. Thanks.

"alternate wheel weights"
silentracer--
I've used no. 8 steel shot as wheel weights, sticking them inside the wheels (not the tires), with rubber cement.
You might try loading the tires half full with the steel shot and let it roll inside the tires as they turn, always keeping the shot on the bottom.
If you're interested in the weight differences (with and without shot), I can weigh each and report back to you.
You might do the same with your weighting method. Perhaps others could do similar measurements and contribute their findings.
