Lithium Ion installation

hey i wanted to install a lithium ion into my xmod but i have a couple questions first

1) do i need a FET upgrade and if so is it hard and expensive

2) okay im buying this motor would my board be fried if i installed the liths

3) is there a way to use my 5 cell set up and put in like one lith 3 dummy batteries and a triple aaa (which equals 5) or am i going over the 8.4 v limit.

any help would be appreciated.

p.s. to all the people who are getting ready to post why didnt you search for this topic first all i have to say is SORRY IT'S 12:00 AM IN THE FREAKING MORNING and i searched but im new to xmods so i dont really know if what i was looking at was the answer to mmy question

With lithiums, it would be a good bet to upgrade the FETs with that motor. I would highly recomend to not use regular batteries with lipo's. 2 Lipos is 7.2-7.4V which is more than plenty.

5 cells will probably be pretty good with that motor and not necessarily wreck the FETs. As for the upgrade, a guy on ebay sells them pretty cheap, like 1.10 per FET (then like 2.50 for shipping). I ordered like 50 FETs from him for both EVO and gen1. The Evo takes 2 different types though. I've been making stacks and doing the upgrades, and it takes a steady hand to do it. Getting the old FETs off the board takes a while too. I'd say soldering them to the board after getting them stacked is the most difficult part for me. If you don't have much soldering experience, than it will be very difficult.

From my research, it appears that lipo's are an expensive upgrade. On top of the batteries you have to find a good charger. Use the wrong one and you're in big trouble. You also have to pay more attention to the car, because if you discharge lipo's too much, they won't charge again.

Putting in 2 extra cells will put you at the same voltage level as lipo's. This can be done really easily and cheaply, but you do have a disadvantage in that it weighs more.

Without a FET stack, I wouldn't run more than 6. I've ran a lot of xmods with 6, but one did fry a FET (use at your own risk). Most people I have ever heard of using stock or stage 2 motors have never had a problem with 6 cells. If you go 7, you will probably run into trouble.

well im installing new fets that can run i believe 9 volts or 9 something lol but i have an evo so do i need to stack them im ordering 2 (main reason is becuase my forward fet fried) thats fine for 6 cell right and it should handle liths

Some people have had problems if you stack one and not the other. I'm not entirely sure why. If you start running more cells, you'll fry the reverse like you fried the forward. The reverse is a p-channel which actually has lower current tolerance than the foward.

oh also i need a bit of help on the evo board ther are 2 sets of fets 2 fets on the top of the board 2 fets on the botom (which would be hell on earth if you tired to replace) and a random 5th fet on the bottom also which would be to hard to replace just REALLY difficult.

my question is whats the forward and reverse fets and if i replace those fets do i have to replace all the others

not only is he a con-artist, he doesn't help out those who buy from him. I'm not sure if it was Xmodsforums, XMW or here that I read about someone's buying experience with him, but from what I remember it was a very bad experience.

The fets you want are the ones on the top, which are easier than the gen1 fets to replace. They are two different kinds though.

I don't remember which is which, i'll try to look it up later.

first of all i noticed that this speedologist guy didnt answer my questions but is he really a con artist i just bought his engine do you think that it will be as fast as his last engine

second of all if i changed the 2 fets ontop do i need to change the ones on the botom i heard of over powering fets might cause damage and this occurs when fets dont have the same voltage or something like that

oh also does anyone know how to install the lithium ion without adding a new chassis and preferabbly without soldering.

also right now i have a 6th cell in my xmod and i dont know how many of you have this problem but i have an evo and the rear clip ALWAYS falls off becuase the 6th cell doesnt fit properly does any one have pics on how and where the cells are supposed to be btw i have a g35

I think that speedologist guy probably does do some good work. He just bloats his motors with pages of retarded "Ferarri" analogies. Your motor will probably be faster than stock, but I'm not sure just how fast it is.

As for the lipo batteries. You can buy AAA size lipos. You'll have to changed around the wireing in the battery holder though, you really wouldn't want 4 AAA lipos in series. You'd need to wire it to have two in parallel with the other two. (still would need to do some soldering)

For the FETs, the only important ones to worry about are the driving fets. The bottom two are for the steering. The other black chip on the bottom is not a FET. You would need to change any of them.

If you want to be an electronis modder, you're really going to need to learn how to solder. Soldering batteries and wires from the battery holder is pretty easy. The FETs get a bit more difficult without a very finely tipped pencil.
