Correct...the teflon washers may work but they must only contact the bearings outer race so they would need to be a large inner diameter (ID) and an outer diameter (OD) that fits snug in the housing. I only added the wire loops to the inside of the hubs, only one per hub/wheel.

I have some GPM aluminum goods on the way and will post on those soon...

The tires and wheels are from a Stomper like truck sold at various drug stores and toy stores. They are cheap, about $5-6. I saw some the other day at a local Walgreens in a two pack for I think $9.99

Angry

what you can do is put the rims inside out, also another you can do is put the wider axle stubs that come with that racing suspension tune up for the cars. (altough you would have to buy 2 sets to have a wider stance in the front and rear.) also a body raise would kill alot of the rubbing caused by the swampers. i tried my friends overland tires on some wider ridgeless xmod rims and it had so much rubbing the tires barely turned. so yea, a big body lift and use the rims inside out with wider axle stubs. one thing i havent tried to see is if the wider axle stubs limit the independent front suspension travel.

going a little off topic:
has anyone tried to place longer screws where the smooth shaft screw goes? on the brackets and arms? it gives it more clearance and travel independtly for each wheel. at least for me it did. the only thing is that you have to find something to copy that smooth shaft on the screw, like a pen shaft or something.

please post spur gear mod and how to find it!!!

maxxiout, i am REALLY interested in your 33 tooth modification. if you can, please send me a step by step of it to my email. Alpha_1992@hotmail.com, or if not just post it in this thread. i think every interested in this mod has looked every where and not found anything, i looked through ebay, atomicmods, tiny rc shop and a couple of other and no luck where did you get that spur gear, o and i was thinking of making it a 6 tooth pinion. o and one more question, you just put the rims for the huge tires on the regular rims and drilled a hole to be able to lug it right?? i was thinking of doing something similiar to my f-150 except with bfgoodrich krawler tires that come with the xtreme rock machines. it woudl be awesome if you posted this mod, thanks

where did you get that gear cover? it looks like it has more inner space that the stock one....it should work, since the 33 tootth spur gear that people use for the mod is not so much bigger thatn the stock one.

Hi All,

Please forgive the huge delay in responding! I have done a few other mods to the truck since I updated here last.

Please follow this link for the (almost) latest pictures and email me if you need any help on any of the mods you see.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2101159406

The 33t gear mod was tricky at best. It took a few tries to get the RS gear molded into the 33t Stomper gear. I have not pursued making a cover as it is high enough to not really get stuff into it but I would like one too if it was easy...just no budgeted time for it right now.

The biggest mod I have done, not yet in the pics, is to use a 1/24 Super Slicks PC board in place of the RS board. The main reason is because the RS board is a three step speed controller, basically no slow torque and too fast for crawling fun. No amount of FETs and gismos can make the RS board good for crawling, it's made to be too fast. The SS board has at least 10 steps and can crawl slowly, has lots of torque and can spin the wheels like the RS board with FETs when the trigger is squeezed! Again this mod was not easy...but is very compatable. With some soldering skills and a good knowlege of the RS board and servo it can be done. It even delivers more power to the servo so you get solid steering even in the dirt!

I will post up some pics of it soon but email me for a quicker responce if you have any questions.

Below is the write-up I made when I added my So Real Bogger tires/wheels but the pictures are missing, you can match them with the ones from the link above. Good building!

****************

Today my So Real Boggers showed up and within 2 hours I had them modded and mounted.

The rubber is pretty stiff so regretfully they are only scale for looks but not flex, which was kind of expected but I would have liked a very soft rubber compound instead...oh well...can't have it all!

First the truck pics then on to the Tut of how to mod the wheels in no time at all!

>>>

33t custom spur, 6t pinion, Neo mags in stage 2, F&R ball diffs, parts all dyed black, steering mod to reduce horrid toe out of lifted kit.

This is the body lift pic; front simply uses two shock stand-offs with longer screws; rear uses some washers, spacers and tapered screws to be flush. All fits and works like stock but lifted!

*******

Ok...here's how to do the wheels too>>>

First start with a set of the So Real wheels and tires and a set of any plastic Xmod wheels.

Next trim down all four Xmod wheels to just the hub disk, like shown in the pic leaning on the snips.

Next trim the inner "disk brake" off the SR wheels on all four. Take care to only cut enough to get the plastic to separate like in the pic below and pry/snip off all the edge. Sand slightly nice and smooth and flush.

Then take some drills and progressivly drill out the SR hub center just big enough for your lug wrench to fit. It's ok that the SR wheel center breaks up and falls out, all you want is a hole.

As incredible luck would have it the xmod hub mates perfectly to the SR wheel like they were meant to be! make sure to sand very lightly the chrome where the two parts fit together so the glue holds.

This is the cool part!!...instead of wrestling with the hub to get it back into the stiff tire just slip the SR wheel into the tire and apply some CA (super glue) to the inner wheel edge, next quickly and fully press fit the xmod hub into the SR wheel and wala!! the wheel is on easy as can be. To keep the tire from slipping on the wheel apply some CA to the inner hub and let is seep in the tire. Make sure the tire is on straight while the glue dries!!

which PCB did you use and is it really worth it for a normal trail rig? i don't plan on using the xmod truck from extreme crawling, just some rock, sand and mud fun. fo serious stuff i have my crawler ssmt, and crawler mini crusher.
i have mine geared pretty low, (6-33) and my motor is really torquey, and slow...so do you this i need the 10 step PCB???
also, where did you get the PCB from???
by the way, i think your xmod truck and avant from mini-z racer are the most capable right now....mine will soon be up there in the spotlight with yours.
