lego tires, xmod rims
Lego Tires for Xmod Rims
I was tired of my xmod’s tires drying out so I started going through the “RIMS & TIRES” drawer of my lego organizer cart and I saw that 10 year old lego tires were still as soft as the 10 month old lego tires (for those of you laughing at me right now for still playing with legos at 16yrs old, I owe all my creative skills to the wonders of the lego, so give it a shot and see how fun they are).
This discovery got me thinking and I started trying to fit the various tires onto my ‘mod rims.
I found that the flat tires from the forklift in the “Construction Vehicle” group (kit #8441) and the tires from any of the off-roady looking kits (examples: kit #6602 [rear wheels], and #6474) fit the ‘mod rims the best.
NOTE: I am using my stock rims and I don’t know how this will work with any of the rim upgrades seeing as I have not had the funds as of late to get rim upgrades and find out if there are any differences between them and stock rims
OK, materials and the destructions, here we go:
Most of the work is done to the tires themselves that is why ‘mod rims are not included in the ‘materials’ list
What you need
-Lego tires
-Sharp knife, razor blade, Xacto knife, . . . you get the picture, I hope.
-A steady hand
1. Turn the lego tire inside out.
2. Notice the raised “seam” on the, now outside, of the tire. This needs to be cut out with the blade slicing toward the center of the tire at a V shaped angle.
The tire should look something like this now
----v----
3. Once you have the seam cut out, roll the tire back right side out and put it on you rims.
Be prepared for better grip and longer tire life.
*Also, you can use a heat tool to cut your own custom tread design with out slicing the tire or use the tool to flatten down the treads to create slicks*
