Okay, I'm new to all the whole micro rc biz and I would appreciate if someone would please clarify which motor I would need to use if I wanted to upgrade my zz mt's steering... I'm reading this thread and I’m getting more and more confused because it sounds like some people are using zz motors and others are using microsizer motors. Which is it? Because, when I popped my pcb cover off last night, I discovered that the motor is smaller in diameter then the usual zz se motors. Thus, the zz se motors would not fit into the steering motor housing. So, what kind of motor would I need to make this work without compromising the battery life too much when I add the stronger steering motor? Microszer motors? Which color?
Thanks

You need to use a regular zip zap motor, not SE. It'll fit fine, just make sure it's a regular zz motor. Note that the more powerful your steering motor is, the less battery life you will have.

Umm no that makes two of you..the motor you use is the motor that DRIVES the car and the zz dosnt have a motor to steer it has magnets and the zz se has a servo for steering which yes it does have a motor but its way different. You use the DRIVE motor the one that drives the car. Is it that hard to read the thread and see what motor to use??

ok, he said that his SE motor wouldn't fit. I've never seen an SE motor, so I assumed it must be different than the regular zip zap motor. If it's the same, then I'm not sure why he's having a problem.

Okay, I'm getting even more confused now... I can say this for sure, the zz and zz se drive motors are the same size; I finally saw one the other day. Plus, I got my hands on a Microsizer motor too and confirmed that it WILL fit. So unless there are even older zz versions that use smaller drive motors, I don't think they will fit in the zz mt steering motor housing.

They NEVER changed the size of the motor or else there would be more types of zzs than zz and zzse.

There is no "one step motor" its the pc board that varies the volts going to the motor for variable speed.

the diameter of the ZZ motors and the MT steering motor is the same. the difference is that the ZZ motor is longer. i tried it and it worked fine but i decided to gut an SE and transfer everyting to my MT instead.

ok, it looks like some people here are confused so here is a pic of what i did.

i used a RED ZIP ZAP MOTOR. just solder leads onto it and put it in. you will either have to drill a hole or cut the pcb cover so the motor will fit because the motor is longer. Don't forget to change the pinnion gears too, make sure you put the pinnion gear that is on the stock motor onto the new motor.
