Does stronger magnets=reduced top speed?
I just remember someone saying that putting stronger magnets in a motor will increase the tourqe and decrease the top speed.
I don't think this is true, but I just want sombody to confirm it.

i think you're right. stronger magnets should grab the armature harder giving it torque but unless you advance the timing you have a lower top speed. but that would defeat the purpose of stronger magnets i think.
I dont know much about motors so dont quote me.

larger more powerful magnets = less top end speed but more torque
Smaller weaker magnets = Higher top end speed but less torque
ADvancing the timing = increased speed but it all depends on the direction you turn it if you turn it one way it will go faster fowards
the other way will make it go faster in reverse

First thing, you need a motor that is tunable, so the stage 2s won't work. But basically, on the end bell, you can rotate the brushes. Whereas with neutral timing, the brushes sit directly over the magnets, you can advance or retard the timing by up to I think 20 degrees, but 10-15 isn't pushing the envelope as much. BTW: Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong on this, as I've only researched and haven't yet tried any of this yet. Retarding the timing (clockwise rotation) is bad, so you only want to advance it. BTW: Mark where you advance it on the can so you can replace it whenever you rebuild the motor.

You can advance the timing on a Stage 2 motor, it's just not as easy if you have a tuneable motor. You can take the endbell off and use your fingers or a set of pliers to gently turn the commutator in the endbell. Assuming you bent it the right way, and assuming you can get it back together correctly, you will have advanced the timing.
