question about climbing angle...

im just wonder in if anybody has noticed that the climbing angle of the hummer and monster patrol is a maximium of 33 degrees. and the bigfoot and hulk is 35 and above. does anybody have an explation for that?

yeah i seen the same thing and asked it on another site and no one answered. my only guess is that the hummer and patrol have diffent gears for a little more speed and the other two have gears more towards torque. it said on the site that the motors were all i think it was 8000 rpm. the scale speed was different, where the hummer and patrol go 80 while the bigfoot and hulk go 70.

Hehe, I saw that same post on the "other" site, and since I *refuse* to post there ever again (their loss, not mine), here goes... in this forum -

I'm thinking that the specs shown on RS's web site are simply typos/mistakes. The Monster Patrol and Spiderman monster trucks have the same exact gears and motors as the Bigfoot and Hulk trucks.

A while back (before I got my first monster truck, the MP), I was trying to update my ZipZaps Speed Calculator utility to add calculations for the monster trucks. I based all of my calculations on the scale speed being "70 mph" (as shown on the original BF and Hulk truck pages, which were added to RS's web site way before the MP and SM trucks).

After "reverse" calculating using a bit of my rusty old algebra, I derived a specific figure for the MT tire diameter and circumference (based on RS's original blurb of "70mph scale speed). Low and behold (as confirmed by Namuna, as well as myself after buying my MP MT), my "reverse" calculations were dead-on, all performed blindy (as at that time I didn't even have one of the MTs)... meaning that the original blurbs on RS's web site (on the BF and Hulk MT pages) is correct, 70MPH. My "blindly" derived calculations for the MT tire diameters and circumferences were 100% accurate -

Anyhoo, long story short, the differences in climbing angle and scale speed are simply typos... the BF and Hulk pages are correct, while the SM and MP pages contain the errors.

P.S. The original thread in question here on TinyRC, discussing my calculation skills (or lack thereof LOL!) -> http://tinyrc.com/forums/showthread....threadid=20421

LOL, thats true, it is their loss. actully, you have been very helpful to me. thanks. i would be lost without you, thanks for the info, but i would think that typos happening twice, and in the same place is pretty unlikely, especially for pros.

Hehe, who ever said that RS were pros LOL <BG>? Hehe, if you'll notice in many of thier online (as well as printed catalog) pictures, they can't even get the tires mounted in the proper direction (some of the pics I've seen of a single MT had three tires mounted with the tread in the correct direction, and one in the wrong direction LOL), or even the correct stock rims on the right truck(s) LOL!

Seriously 'tho, the stock motors, gears, and tire diameters are identical for all of the trucks, so's the scale (or real-world) speeds will be the same, as well as the climbing angle.

Now, I'm not sure about the climbing angle, but the 70MPH scale speed does indeed calculate out properly based upon a fixed tire circumference of 3.4649472 inches. In other words, I'm not sure about the climbing angle, but the scale speed will be the same for all of the MTs (being that the stock parts are the same).

Hehe, OK, finally RS moved the Bigfoot MTs over to their MT page along with the other trucks, but... check out the current blurb on the page for the 60-7056 Bigfoot at http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...uct_id=60-7056

Quote:
Scale speed of 7mph
Hmmm... that calculates out to about (point one) .1 real-world MPH LOL!

BTW, the pics for the 60-7056 and 60-7057 Bigfoot MTs are flipped (note the freqs. and the antenna colors LOL!).

Negative. All of the MTs are identical.

Negative. I bough both. They are different, one is faster and one is more torqeyer.
EDit: My friend bough both.

That may be due to various manufacturing tolerances and batches. In other words, two identical motors will always have slightly different torque and top RPM when comparing one to another.

The question that was posed in this thread though, was if the MTs came with the same gears and motors (meaning that the mathematical torques/climbing angles/top speeds, etc... would be the same).

I assure you though, the actual *specs* and parts for the stock MTs are all *identical* ... the gear ratios as well as motor RPMs are the same (8,000 RPM - Stock Green motor, and 24 to 1 - Stock Green gears), but of course, two identical motors and/or PC boards will have slightly different "real-world" speeds and torques (for the reasons listed above)

I have a theory that one has a 6 tooth motor gear and one has a 7. But I don't have one, i rather heard it from a close friend who has 2.
