actually it relieves the pressure from the turbo, not the intake

actualy id does both, it releaves built up pressure in the intake caused by over spin of the turbo when you let off the gas.

Alright about this whole bov thing. The point is pretty much made...however nobody has mentioned the actual purpose of the blow off valve. When using a turbo you have something called turbo lag, which means it takes time for the turbo to get spinning (spool). Every time you shift you are a victim of turbo lag. So what the bov does is essentially eliminate turbo lag by releasing the built up pressure in your turbo manifold. This in turn elimnates turbo lag. In the fast and furious movies etc you will notice that some of the cars have bovs. Every time they shift or let off the throttle while at high rpms, the bov makes a pssstt sound. Hope that helped.

It does that too. It also extends turbo life by preventing compressor surge. When you suddenly close the throttle at redline, you get a surge of air back through the intake to the turbo. When that air hits your turbo spinning at 100,000rpm, the results can be disastrous.
