This is probably the most challenging mod I have done to my Xmod. (though it won't be the last) It's my RCmod contest entry for best of show 2004.

Here's a pic of the chassis for you, newbit. Ignore the blue tape. I'm working on a metal extension plate and the blue tape is holding the plastic one in place, since the screw hole broke off! I really need to make the extension out of metal anyway...it's 3" long!

Why would the stock servo be having trouble? The front tires aren't really that much wider than the stock ones. Really the only difference is that the model tires are a bit further out. Plus, the model car tires have less grip, thus less effort that the servo needs to exert to turn them.
But in answer to your question, yes all the stock parts are being used. I had to take the receiver and crystal out of the plastic housing and move it further towards the bottom of the chassis. The crystal kept hitting the body before. I also shaved a bit off of the outer side of the steering servo to allow a bit more space.
