mysterious problems

I was exchanging parts from 2 bit chr g's like the steering thingys to make one good one. somehow I couse the steering to get inverted. now I tried to hook up 4 batts to the controller instead of 2. When I was charging my car I managed to steer the wheels once but when i took it off my car wouldn't respond to any inputs. So I changed my controller back to normal with 2 batteries and I could still get no response from my car. the lights in the controller worked but not the car. I somehow messed up the battery in my other car maybe thats what happened? If I messed up my batt all I can do is get a new one right?
