If you cant get the solder to stick, you ain't doing it right.

Each surface (wire and battery surface) must be heated in order for the solder to stick, what you are doing is a cold solder joint, or dry joint, where there is a layer of flux under the solder. Meaning it has not bonded. When the cell surface is hot, the solder should 'flow', not go into a ball sitting on the surface.

You need a hotter iron or try heating the cell for a bit longer.

Ideally you need an extremely HOT iron for soldering cells, as it means the job can be done quickly without dmaging the cell from heat.

I hope you realise that those lithium cells aren't 4.2 v.... They may read that when they have been charged and arent being discharged. If you measure them under load they will only be around 3v each, or 18v for 6 of them.

Just a few tips to help.....
No, I don't own a Z. I haven't tried, but the company themselves said that the solder would not stick after a friend of mine tried it out. I also don't have a very hot soldering iron, but I got it for free, so it was perfect. Peak voltage on the cells is 4.2, straight off the charger. Nominal voltage is 3.7 volts/cell. The problem is, you'll still have 4.2/cell for just a little bit, thereby, you still need the strength of the board to hold that. BTW, if it doesn't go fast enough, I'm going up to 6 cells.

Trust me, all cells have internal resistance, due to this resistance there will be a voltage drop under current load.

i.e. NiMH cells under high load drop down to under one volt under high load.

Solder will stick to any cell, you gotta have enough heat.

Battery holders are cheaper than a new soldering iron.

Nah, I have an iron (otherwise I wouldn't have made this baby), but for 5 bucks, it's easier to just buy battery holders.
