Poor accelleration
I just purchased a Skyline today. I installed the body kit and the stage 2 10 tooth motor. After the motor, top speed seemed a little better, but still a slug off the line.
I think I will lue the rear tires to the wheels, thouh, they are sliping off a lot. I know I need to install bearings, but the bushings should not affect accelleration that much anyway.
The skyline body is going away and a cusom body is being fitted as we speak. I don't plan on racing, just playing around, but I REALLY don't like how slow it is off the line.
I am running non-rechargables (1.5 volts each vs rechargables with only 1.2 volts), and I am not sure where to go from here... Did I maybe put in the wrong motor for a good hard take off?

The 10T gearing for stage 2 is okay accelleration wise, but it's not going to jump off the line like the 8T Drift motor.
Good Bearings help accelleration more than you can imagine, especially if you've had the bushings for more than a few weeks, and especially if you've used it a lot. The bushings melt and wear away, making for a lot of slop in the drivetrain. My stock bushings were shot in 2 weeks. Bearings will help you a lot.
Try NiMH batteries just once and see if that also makes it a little quicker. Non-rechargeable batteries have a pretty high internal resistance, which means that yes, they can put out 1.5 volts instead of 1.2, but they can supply a lot less amps, and amps make torque! Torque makes accelleration, especially when you run the 10T or 11T Stage 2's.
Gluing the tires with rubber cement works really well, and you can always still remove them if you decide to change tires.

alkalines only put out 1.5 volts for a very short time after about 5 minutes the voltage drops constantly. with the NIMH rechargeables they provide 1.25 volts all the way untill they are dead

Okay, so I will drop in the 8T and some rechargeables and see how it works out.
On the suspension kit, which is the best all around spring? I installed the blue ones, but have not run it yet with them.
Will one of the optional steering linkages improve my turning radius?

Your best bet is to search the forum for info on these issues. They've been rehashed many times before.
As a general rule, for straight line stuff, the stiffer the springs the better. Some people, myself included, double up the springs. I use 2 blues per damper on the back and 2 yellows per damper on the front. People's setups vary. For cornering, too hard and you'll get wheel hop and un-desireable levels of oversteer. Too soft and you'll get too much body roll and understeer.
The higher angle of steering rod you use, the sharper your turning radius will be, but it will slow you down in the straightaways. The stock piece is made for top speed.
