bottoming out...what to trim?

I'm running soft spring in the back (Red), and once they are compressed one time, the stay slightly compressed and lead to a lot of bottoming out. I'm dragging the bottom of the chassis of a flat and level surface...much less over bumps and in turns...It looks like the two protrusions on the underside of the rear deck for the bottom of the shocks/springs is the main offender...what all can I safely remove to help prevent this situation? I'm certainly not helping my car out by dragging it everywhere...

you could try using the blue (stiff) springs. or if you are having still having trouble, i will send you mine to see how they work.
but anyway, you don't want to cut those parts off, those are what hold the dampers (spring holders) in place. yoo cut those off, you will have a bigger problem than you have now.

so this is good right? i bottom out on bumps myself.... i have no problems with the flat areas...my car just flies over those.

soft springs dont to crap in the rear. you can only use them in the front. because of the camber change in the rear the springs have to work harder to lift the car up. you need to use at least medium springs in the rear.

lol, That dang car does drag on a flat surface....on my desk here I run the car fine, press the back down once, then she starts dragging....

I'm gonna go up to the yellow springs to see if that helps.

What about a monoshock? WOuld that help the rear geometry at all? One of the first things I noticed when I got the car was the horrible rear geometry of the rear suspension...espically since the car is RWD out of the box.

Thanks for the welcome, I didn't at first want to spend the money on the car, thinkign it'd be a waste, but man, after that first test run, I was hooked. Not to mention all the aftermarket parts I can get for it...lol.

I have a related question. I sit normal for the screws in the front end to hang down the way they do? I don't have the car in front of me. I think that they go back up when pushing the front wheels. Do they also go back up when the car is placed on the ground?

the screws on the knuckles? are they short screws with flat heads or medium sized screws with tapered heads? if youre talking about the 2 that are on the sides of the 4 in the middle of the front, then yes, the screws are supposed to do that. if they didnt you wouldnt have any suspension movement at all.

you cant do a mono shock without fabricating your own shock. but that might work. going straight the car would go through its range of motion normally then in the turns the car would change its camber to help you corner. you may be on to something there. i think someone should make a 4 wheel independent suspension with adjustable camber. like on bigger cars, with upper and lower a-arms

If I can get some kind of rods from my local hobby store, I might give a full suspension a thought, with slots on either the top or bottom mounts to allow for camber adjustment. It 'seems' easy enough, I"m used to fabricating 1:1 parts, 1:28 can't be too hard...nor as near expensive, lol.

I've given the monoshock idea a try and I can't quite get it to work. I'm having trouble with the spring wanting to bend when the suspenion is flexed to the max....of course in the rear it doesn't flex to the limit while in a race or moving, but I can't have 'half good', lol.

bottoming out even with you replacing the springs? you wanna send me a pic of how your car is bottoming out? if the springs did not help, i have no idea.

The new yellow springs have helped, have not tried the reds yet, but I still do'nt get a whole lot of suspension travel, but I belive thats due more to just the design of the car. There is a lot of travel in the shock, but only a small amount is usable under normal conditions. It's all for naught cause of my fried board, lol....I"ve also reverse mounted my rear tires for a wider track and hopefully more stability...Had to trim some material off on the inside of the wheel wells on the body. If i can ever get my fender flares to work I won't have that problem. Thanks for the help guys.

I knew I shouldn't have bought this thing, cause now I'm slightly obessed and can envision all my money draining away....lol.

hehehe Tiger51, welcome to shiporu's world. I spent most (like 90%) of my spending money on these!!! I now have a butt load of r/c cars and some unusable xmods. I use them for parts to fix up the running ones.

i hope to step up to the bigger and LOTS more expensive nitro cars someday. but untill then, I am plenty happy with my xmods.
