ABC DTM - A dying breed, and yet it is a better car than a lot of Micro RC's.

It just puzzles me as to why the DTM SP is not as popular, eventhough the chassis design is race proven. I've put a few 1/18th scale cars in their place with this car.

Or is it because not a lot of people know about this site or the DTM SP?

I know there's only a few of us and I think we should push it further.

I agree....the DTM SP and X4's are a less known RC I think.

How can we push the interest further though..?? Start a ABC DTM Forum ???

I know I have my Iwaver, Mini Z modded to go about 20-25 MPH.

BUT I also know once I get my DTM where I want it...I am thinking I can push it to 30-35 MPH (that is if I mod it correctly)

What type of electronics do you have in yours??

It depends. On my X4, I have the LRP Quantum Pro Competition, but you can use either Novak Spy or LRP MICRO. I have 8 cells on the X4 and 6 cells on the SP. Also, for receiver, I either use a Tekin FM Receiver ( a little hard to get), or HiTec FM Micro Receiver- $32.99 only.

If you want to see a 40+ mph Pro-Z, check out www.latencyproject.com and go to the very bottom of the front page, on the left bottom, you will see an archive, click on 04/01 to 04/30.

Click on 40 MPH Pro-Z by NML. This is the same size as a Mini-Z.

I don't think a lot of people are aware of it. Perhaps when we do a tutorial on how to set it up, people will be less intimidated by it?

Checked latencyproject and the movie links were 404'd. Was looking forward to seeing the Mini-Z main too. I'm really loving my SP too, I just picked up a TO Elite Modified (barely used for $10!!). The servo I'm using is a bit off, its a used DRR servo. I'm ordering one tonight and praying it gets here by wed. so I can use it at the track. I'm running it again on a 1/10 carpet track up here with potentiality's XRay M18, another M18 and some Mini-T's that the 1/10 racers have.

That sounds good. If it's asphalt, let me know and I would be able to give you some tips on which compound to use.

That's a good deal, btw. $10 for a coreless. Put 8 cells on that thing and reach speeds over 40 mph. I've tried it before. However, TO does not recommend going over 7.2. I experienced no problems.

Sweet, its a bit crowded right now, so I doubt I could fit the extra cells (using 6 1/3AA right now). I'm also having trouble with traction rolls so I don't want to raise the CG at all. You can see my layout (minus the new TO Elite) here http://cstanleyw4.home.comcast.net/rc/dtmsp.htm Were you able to fit a larger pinion on the TO Elite with the stock SP motor mount? I can only get a 10T plastic on.

We're running on carpet (Ozite carpet 40X75) as you can see at http://raincityraceway.com. I'm running on foams right now, but not sure what kind, they were already installed on alum DRR rims that I got on an ebay auction with the Spy I'm running.

I'm trying to decide on a servo right now, any suggestions? The existing servo dimensions are 30x13x26mm, and I'd like to keep to 26 or shorter (depth) so that I won't have to change my layout. Also, any idea what type of torque is needed for a car this size? I'm assuming 20+ oz-in should be ok?

One thing that I find is a shame is this,
I usually race my Mini'Z at a local HS race track.
But he only allows Z's at his track.
No Clones, Iwavers, X mods....anything.

So finding a decent place with people to race against with my DTM SP is slim to none.
I apologize ahead of time if I appear to be a newbie to the DTM, I am very new at this RC.

C Dog..nice setup, thanks for posting the pics.
Now I have some idea of what I can look forward too.

BTW, where can you purchase the rims you have on your car, or at least similar ones?? DinBall??

MicroRC thanks also for the help.... We definitely need to make everyone aware of this 1/24 scale wonder.

Wheels can be had here http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/serv...tBy=ProdNumAsc and here http://store.yahoo.com/hobby-warehou...aacandupp.html
Just know that you need non flanged bearings up front to make those work. Since the rears just slip over the wheel hubs you're fine in back.

After thinking about it, I think you're probably in a more frustrating situation track wise in that theres a track about that scale, but won't race what you have. I can get out and run, but its on a 1/10 track and so far mostly a novelty to anyone else that runs. We have 3 serious micro RC people coming this wed. so it should get better. Tough for me though, I'm racing my SP against all 1/18's :P

No prob.

Back to servo: I use Hitec 20-BB sub micro. These are really small, and much smaller than DRR Servos. A lot quicker and more precise too.

The DTM SP & DRR are scaled down pan cars which make them 1. very quick and very fast 2. Easy to work on. One of the reasons why I gave up 1/10th scales. 3. smooth gear meshing. very quiet. 4. If one has enough imagination, can reach speeds up to 59 mph.

And if space is an issue, simply lessen the cells. I'll admit, a fully modded MR02 (Mini-Z) will not have a chance. But one can't compare the two, because they are different classes. But my point is, of all the Micro RC's, DTM SP and DTM RR are the only ones that will give the 1/18th rc's a run for their money.

I love Mini-Z's a lot, but when it comes to reliability and fun of use, I choose the DTM's over them. I guess it's just preference. I do agree with the fact that there's not a lot of people running them, but if RC tracks were to put up a class with this thing, it will be more intense. One big reason: DTMs come with very low modifications, so there really is not much in it for tracks to make money on. This may not be the case in some cases, but notice how a lot of tracks heavily promote, cars that require a lot of hop-ups? That's because it generates income, and I don't blame them. I would do the same, but it doesn't mean I would not promote the DTMs. I like them a lot for their simplicity, and yet, their competitive edge.

On Ozite is where the DTMs really shine. As that one seller said, it's literally like a slot car without the slots. It's fast and very responsive.

One big reason why I got into Micro RC's was to enjoy running it more than working on it. I find other Micro RC's requiring more time to work on. And this is based on my experience.

You can use bigger pinions, but you have to dremel parts of the motor mount, where the bushing on the shaft side of the motor sits. It's the part of the motor can that protrudes, and is where the bushing is located. Simply grind that down. Take your time doing it to avoid mess ups.

Thanks for the advice. Can't find mention of the HS-20 anywhere...? I'm looking at the HS-56BB instead. 16oz-in of torque, but based on the model number you use it sounds like it will be enough. I'll probably order that tonight :P

As for grinding the motor mount, I'm glad to hear someone has done it successfully. What pinion/spur do you generally run with? I thought I had a 40T spur but I was wrong, so I can't raise my gear ratio w/o attacking the motor mount.

Before you do it, I want to make sure we are referring to the same type of motor. I was referring to the coreless which TO made and so does Peak. If so, then, yes. Also, you will have to grind down the chassis (where the motor mount sits)

TO motor with a direct drive = smooth, yet full of power. Very quiet too.

Yup, this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBEF4&P=7 is the motor I have.

I already ground down the chassis and the motor is in, but now I still need to modify motor mount. I attached a pic for those not clear on why, notice the bearing for the motor hitting the edge of the motor mount's circular opening for the bearing to stick through. Unless I widen the hole, I'm stuck with 10T or smaller pinions (on my 42T spur).

I test ran the motor when I got it and you're absolutely right, the motor is super silent, silky smooth and just plain fast. I ran it with the 10T/42T combo.

Out of curiousity, how does this motor compare to something like a 280, 300 or any of the larger MRS4 motors?

Here's a few questions for you guys.
First...the rims you showed me C dog...its says they are for the Dynamite rocket racer.....Obviously these are fully compatible with the DTM's?

Next,
Have either of you heard of the Mamba 25 Power Package ...(ESC and Motor)?? I know they fit is HPI Mircos, and MiniT's but do you think they would work in the DTM modded or not, why or why not??

From the results I ve seen on the MINI T Video they have...I am thoroughly impressed..what do you think?

Yea, the wheels are made for the DRR, but they work on DTM SP. Like I mentioned earlier, the rears are a perfect replacement, but you need non flanged bearings to use the front DRR aluminum rims on the DTP SP.

No idea on the brushless, but I do know its hella expensive. I'm sticking with my TO Elite that I got slightly used for $10 :P

If you do pursue the brushless, let me know, I'm curious to see how it runs at this scale.

I have a feeling that it may be too long; however, should it be able to fit, and you put 14.4 volts, then you got yourself a 60+ mph ABC.
