motor prob

can anyone help me, when i connect my battery up the steering turns left or right, then when i try to hit the throttle nothing happens so i thought i had friend the motor so i swapped them round, nope nothing changed just the steering works. Has this ever happend to anyone before and can anyone help me oh i am running 3 cells but that dont matter does it? the make of the remote control car is HITARI i live in the UK and i got it from argos or index

Maybe one of the wires connecting to the motor pads is broken.
