rather than using relays (defeats the purpose of propo control) try neuro's external FET mod.

im pretty sure propo is what allows you to go fast or slow and anywhere in between, (the trigger on your controller) hey mr big shot, thnx fer the pic, dose the car still function completely normally? or can you only for full power fowards or no movement (thats non prope) also how big are the relays? you dont need to put a pic, just put it in comparison to something on the xmods chassis... thnx

typezero, the reason hes using relays is to run more cells AND hotter motors. If he did nero's external fet upgrade, would he only be able to run hotter motors, but only 6 cells? im prety sure..

Well, it's been a while, and this thing might work differently, but...
We built an electric car in high school. It used a speed controler (about the size of a large shoe box) that would pulsate DC current by using a relay. It didn't regulate the voltage, it just adjusted how often the circuit was on and off (more time on = more throttle). If the xmod works the same way, then the proportional throttle will translate straight through the relays. If it doesn't, then it won't. Anybody know? Am I wrong?

You are correct, sir. However, the speed at which the switching occurs might be too much for the relays to handle. It's about 300 times per second.

I thought relays only worked in non proprtional cars like Race Tins? If you use a relays with the big motors, you may get the mad power, but it'll still just switch on once the input voltage crosses a certain threshold, am I way off??

The way it works is that the relay switches on and off really really fast. If it spends more time off than on, the car goes slow. If it spends more time on than off, it goes faster. This is how the proportional throttle works, it adjusts how long the switch is on and how long the switch is off, right up till it's always on at full throttle.
As Neurokenetic said, provided the relays can keep up, you'll keep your proportional throttle, even with the mod.
So what's the word, Bigshot? Can the relays handle the frequency?
To better answer your question, the relay switches one circuit on when current is applied to another. That means the 5v from the electronics can be used to close 14v to the motor, thus the sensitive electronics can control a dangerous level of voltage. The proportional speed of your car isn't controled by variable voltage, but by variable frequency. If Bigshot's relays can operate at a high enough frequency, this mod should be entirely transparent to the driver.

Ahh, now I Geddit, thanks Rez for clearing that one up.
So Mr B, i guess the $64,000 Question is: Does it work?

Oh yes it does
This set up works , but I think it is running at FULL THROTTLE ! I un hooked all my stuff so I can rewire it with better wire and THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " pic "
I think its time to make a drag car motor was $15.99 and the 20 tooth pinion was $3.50

Bigshot, when you say you think it was at full throttle, do you mean you lost the proportional steering?

no
I have steering , even tho the car has so much power it's more like drifting every where What I was talking about was when I press the triger to go go foward it doesn't take off slowly it takes off fast. The steering works fine .
