Y'know, this is a good question.
What, exactly, are you doing to replace the FET, and what parts are you using? All I'm able to find out about it is 'I replace TEH SUPAR SEKRIT PART 2 GO FASTAR', and it's kinda frustrating.

I am new to the micro RC hobby. I just purcheased a Zip Zap SE, I think it is great. For some reason I can never get into a hobby and not disect it and see how it all comes together. I have already taken my ZZSE apart to look for improvements. I am very interested in this MosFet Mod, but I am curious how it effects battery life. The SE chassis is packed fairly tight and it does not appear to have room for bigger or additional cells. I was a little disappointed to find a 75 mah battery, especially when I read about duel cell or 200 mah mods. Whats all this Initial D toyota junk about? Although I no longer have lights, I quickly installed 2F2F challenger body, it rules. I am an avid DIY nut, although I have no problem paying for this mod. I just don't think that I could part with ZZSE and wait impatiently for its return. If possible could I please be emailed instructions for this mod? I used to be into the tamiya mini 4WD cars a few years ago. I was wondering if anyine has used one of those motors in an XMOD? I still have a case full of Okami motors.

Sorry, Micro_Amps, that's wrong. The stock ZZ SE, right out of the box, is actually somewhere around 1.5 miles per hour, but maybe dropped down to 1 mile per hour because of the extra weight. If you are talking about the red motor and blue gears with your FET mod in there, then yes, it will go at a speed of 3 mph.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, just giving my 2 cents.

Baleisen - I'm not sure how often Micro_Amps checks this thread so you may want to go to his website (it's in his signature) and contact him via his email address...

Anyone who is interested, my website is expanding and has shifted to www.MicroAmps.com.au , all the good info is there and more coming soon. The old address is still running but will be redirected soon. Have a look.

i'd like to see some good PCB shots too. if i were microamp, i'd just post a guide on my site and let ppl mod their own stuff. at most i'd offer to FET mod kits at cost, and charge S&H + $1 for my time. seems like easier money to me.
$55 is no longer "affordable" r/c.

Two words AWE SOME!
I first tried it with the purple motor and blue gears, it had so much torque I could get the back end to come around with the throttle! With the red gears, it still has more torque that stock with blue gears, and the speed is incredible. Torque and speed in reverse is also greatly improved. This is the first SE fast enough to break a body in a crash (that didn't take long). In the past, I usually only broke bodies with dual and tri cell cars. The SE is now the perfect micro rc with this mod! I will be getting this mod on all my SE's, it rocks!

Listen to the man. I have a regular ZZ with stage 2s, and it hauls. Once I replace the resistor on the bottom, I'll be set (I accidentally broke it off). If you can't solder them yourselves, send it to Micro_Amps. BTW, you doin' Xmods yet?

Charlie, the Tamiya speed checker does not lie. Look at the site.

Yep, sure am, I just had to get organised with a test car and some bulk fets but I am up and running now.
Havent put it up on the site yet, but I am doing fet mods for Xmods. Hope to do some comparisons, (pre and post mod) and put them on the site as well, keep an eye out.
I'll start another thread here shortly too.

You cut the heat sinks also? I'm thinking about stacking 'em. Also, big question. How much?

FYI: To purchase a soldering iron and tip small enough to to SMR transistors, you would be spending the same if not more than sending it off to micro. So unless your have a extended use of such a setup, keep in mind with micro_Amps your guaranteed a working car.
(IMOHO Shoulda just let the cat out of the bag initially of how you were doing it Amps. When you take the above into account, you really wouldnt be loosing much business. Those that have such equipment, most likely would have been the ones to wait for the bitpimps fix anyways. While those failing woulda have ended up sending their next repurchase to you).
To those asking for the diagram, see the 7X7 steering thread.
