night fighting
i remember some one saying some thing ina thread about fight ther taks in the dark with with small houses and small 12vol lamps in the houses sounds like fun. so i thout 2 my sleff its posabel hook up a LED light in the tank. so i gave it a whearl. theres 2 wiears frome the tank bodey leading to the turret one brown being + and one dark greay being - amd the onley time power runs thrue it is when the tank is on wich is ideal.i used ends where thay whear sodered 2 hook a small amber silender sape LED. set the LED behind the infaredLED wha LA.so fare it still works but im not shur if im takeing power from something important wish i hade some small surface mounting LEDs like the red one underneth the tank. so fare it look prety cool. what do you guys think?

Heh, sounds pretty cool as long as it is like fully conceiled inside of the turret. If its just like sticking out the top then it will look well...crappy. If you can make it look cool and get some pics I will put it up on my site as a mod. (Also, please proofread your posts, they can get a tad bit sloppy heh)

Nothing enemy tank commanders like better then a Target-Tank with a big bright Spot Light shining on it... "HERE I AM SHOOT ME!" lol... my point you dont need to put the lights on the tanks

Heh, I like your post. I understand your point Draconicious but I mean from a single tank driving standpoint i think it is a good idea. I mean tanks did have lights back in WW2. LoL I think i might mod a tank to have really small leds in the front and rear of the tank(maybe)

Thats true too. But I would really only do it if it could still look and function realisticly, I would not like to have like a white led underlighing the tank. I would want 2 very small led headlights and maybe the 2 taillights.

what about haveing the led inside the tank with fiberoptices or guitar strings as optics to let the light out? drill out the little whole oposite the ir cannon next to the barrel and stic the optic in there, contect it to the led close it up, badabing-badaboom.....there you go

Heh, yeah i was also thinking of fiber optics. Im still waiting for alards muzzle flash diagram. Im sure all you have to do is link up with the ir shooter and solder some leads the the end of the led. Dunno, maybe its more complicated. I dont have the courage yet to modify my 40 dollar combat digi q tanks!

Muzzle flash
Just haven't had time to make a schematic.
If you hook directly to the IR LED on the tank, you could have some problems. I use the IR LED to trigger a cmos 555 timer. The length of the flash is adjustable.
I'll try to get the schematic up this week. The real trick is in figuring out where to put the circuitry, and how to attach the LED and wires to the cannon so that they are concealed.
Fiber optics are an option, but, you still have to find room for the other stuff.

Thx alard, that would be great. I will have to make the circuit board in my digital electronics class. Also I plan on making an IR ouput device that controls the tanks from the computer. I am going to have an experienced coder make the program(friend from school) It will be like battling with a computer player. Ill tell ya how it works out although wont be for awhile till i get a working prototype. Its going to be my digital electronic project for the year. Well got to go so lata.
