Too true, my friend and the design has to compromise so many issues. Making a flat pan that will take stock electronics as well as serve for aftermarket electronics is driving me crazy!!! And each prototype run costs 80-100 bucks for 2-3 chassis's, not to mention the CAD time involved...............sometimes I wonder if we are crazy!!

Yep there is very little room to make it all fit together and options run out fast it seems.
Atleast I'm not spending anywhere near that for prototypes.
Right now I can make a chassis that will work with after market electronics and hold six cells down low but it is still to tight to get it all under an Xmod body.
I just drew up another configuration and will cut a few pieces soon to test fit.

My shop is all me I really wish I had someone local working with me on this.
I'll never be able to produce like a commercial shop untill I get a bit bigger.Luckily CF cuts rather quick compared to aluminum.

not trying to hate but.....i know i'm new to this site and to xmods but i've been racing 1/10th onroad cars for years and what i see here is you want to make a carbon fiber chassy and use mini-z bodies and mini-z wheels and maby after market electronics right?
if you do that why don't you just make this for the mini-z guys because the car will be just about all mini-z anyway....right?
i can see me buying a mini-z body and making it fit on my xmod but its still a xmod(about90%) but if you have a cf chassy,mini-z wheels and body, and after market electronics all you will have is about 20% xmod(moter etc.) right?
if you make a cf bottom plate that is a direct replacement i will buy one or 2....
but if you make it where i hafto basicly build a mini-z i'll just buy a mini-z...you see where i'm comming from???

You must not be talking to me since I am not trying to use any Mini-Z parts on mine in fact I am avoiding that completely.
My goal is to try and beat the mini-Z's (a big challenge to say the least) so I dont want mini-Z parts on what I'm making if/when I actually beat a mini-Z.
The Xmod will need a lot of after market parts to be reliable enough to stay with a mini-z(the mini-Z is a tough/proven car)
I will use similar parts like motors and batteries that could/would work on a mini-Z but thats about it for me.
I'm not tyring to make the Xmod into a mini-Z i'm trying to make it into another fun 1/28 scale RC.

come on you guys have to be kidding me why would you pay 50 for a x mod then turn around and buy all of the upgrades sept maybe a few things and then want to completely reshape sculpt and modify these things to be a mini-z? its just plain stupid so many of you i know just are here for the carbon fiber chassis i know i am i dont want to turn my car into a monster to beat a mini-z because noone around me can afford them so i just want toleave my stock electronics on it instead of paying 300 dollars for stuff and just put me a carbon fiber chassis under it to be stronger and lighter so why ? why would you be dumb enough to do all that for some thing that wasnt made to be like that?

there is one MAJOR item your missing.... manufacturing costs. radioshack did not opt for a cf chassis because they wanted an affordable car for the consumer.. im sure a cf chassis woulda raised the base price by atleast 20-30$. the whole point of modifying it is to make it faster.. how about this as an analogy/comparison.
mini-z's = corvettes/other american sport cars
xmods = imports/ie. hondas, nissans etc..
just like in real life.. you can make say, a nissan 240sx completely smoke a stock corvette for the same amount of money (50k$)
just like xmods... theyre cheaper and can go faster than mini-z's at half the price. sorry for the lame analogy and no effort to defend my statement.. but im not good with these things right after school
edit: i rethought it out..
say you have 300$ to spend on either a miniz or an xmods.
for 300$ you can probably get a miniz and a few upgrades, very few.
as far as an xmods goes... 50$ for the car.. now you have 250$ worth of mods to be put into it. you can have cf chassis/insane motor/electronics upgrades/tires/rims/suspension/awd/lights/bodykit/bearings/cf centershaft/cf upper and rear deck/cf motor mounts/polished heatsink/etc.
i think its pretty obvious now.

To lay the batts flat they would probably have to be locked in place by a top plate and that could make changing them harder.....If the chassis is designed to use the Mini-Z bodies only, then the width becomes wider and the batts could possibly be laid flat in holders. But then you need wider offset wheels.......might be able to hook up with Mini-Z to make the rims.............................................. ....
Rolling chassis, could be possible........

On page 1 you said this which sounds like a mini-z knock-off
right????
also i drive 89 240sx with a sr20det swap and including the car the vette killer only cost $6,000 and i have some upgrades like a boost controler, quafe lsd,and R33 intercooler.you say $50,000 $3,500 and you have a car and a swap that at stock 5-7psi of boost will smoke a vette all day long.

Point of order.........
This chassis is designed specifically for X-Mods!
Our prime design concept for this chassis is an "affordable" CnC made Carbon Fiber chassis designed specifically for a stock swap of the all the components. That means it is only designed for X-Mod bodies/parts.
I entertained the idea of using a Mini-Z friendly body mount but that is way further down the road.
Agree on this point, the X-Mod and Mini-Z are 2 totally different creatures. We do products that will work for the X-Mod as well as the Mini-Z, but this is NOT one of them.
This chassis is designed specifically for X-Mods!
Hope this clarifies.......and does not offend

Yeah, if they work with stock electronics and still can fit a 180 motor, I'll be in for two, as long as they eliminate what I perceive to be the biggest design problem, that being the high center of gravity from the battery mounting. I'll be waiting until I see both designs finished before buying. Or more likely, I'll end up with one of each.
